The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
I too have some powdered cream in my pantry. Bought from someplace in Ohio. Its not bad I tried some. However the absolute best thing in my coffee is A2 powdered heavy cream, shipped from Australia. Bought 4 or 5 times now on ebay. Because there is no liquid your coffee is not diluted. And the flavor is fantastic. Better than what I have in the pantry. That came in cannisters, the A2 comes in a sealed bag and I just kept it in the fridge. Jersey cows are mostly A2 and have fabulous milk. Very heavy butterfat.
Lack of patience got the better of me. I picked a pepper, fried it in oil and put some Kosher salt on it. Yum
LOLOLOL I hear you. I picked 13 this morning. I am going to lightly char them in a hot skillet, stuff with cream cheese, and then submerge in a jar with olive oil. Next batch I will chop fine, lightly saute in olive oil and freeze in little baggies. I roll enough to season a dish, rollup in a snack bag then put a bunch in a freezer quart bag. There is nothing better than an omelette than these. I bagged up so many of these and we ate them all.
I’ve never had them before but was dying to try one.
OK.
I just saw something in my garden today that I would not have believed otherwise.
A beautiful little hummingbird feeding off my tomato flowers. I guess food is food but I never would have thought there’d be enough nectar for hummingbirds. Heck, they’re not even red.
I need to get more hummingbird friendly flowers, I guess.
Hummingbirds are great pollinators. That’s pretty cool! Mine have been coming and going all summer; haven’t had as many as usual for some reason.

Scatter my ashes in my garden
so I can be near my loves.
Say a few honest words,
sing a gentle song,
join hands in a circle of flesh.
Please tell some stories
about me making you laugh.
I love to make you laugh.
When I’ve had time to settle
and green gathers into buds,
remember I love blossoms
bursting in spring.
As the season ripens
remember my persistent passion.
And if you come in my garden
on an August afternoon,
pluck a bright red globe,
let juice run down your chin
and the seeds stick to your cheek.
When I’m dead I want folks to smile
and say, “That Patti, she sure is
some tomato!”
Those are good reasons for eating tomatoes.
lol
