It took awhile, but the Star Wars prequels are now considered cool. Will Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull get the same critical re-evaluation? It hasn’t happened yet, and maybe it shouldn’t considering the film features a scene where Shia LaBeouf swings through the jungle with a bunch of CGI monkeys, but… what was I talking about again? Oh yeah, the Indiana Jones movie with the aliens.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull writer David Koepp recently appeared on the Script Apart podcast, where he discussed the decision to add extra-terrestrials to the Indy canon. “I was never happy with the idea [of the aliens]. When I came on, I tried to convince [Spielberg and co-writer George Lucas] to change it. I had this other idea. They didn’t want to change it,” he said.
It’s the worse one of the bunch.
The first and third are my favorites. Sean Connery should have had another Oscar for that one.
The first one was very good. The next disappointing. The next even more disappointing. The Next sucked.
That is an insult to Corman, he would have made a better movie and with a killer script by Jack Nicholson. Yes Nicholson is a script writer.
Crystal Skulls had aliens in it????
I must have fallen asleep each time I tried to watch it.
Some parts were OK but Shia LeBoob is such a jerk I couldn’t stand to watch it now.
“Sean Connery should have had another Oscar for that one.”
believe it or not, I saw that at the theater and watched at Mann’s Chinese Theater in H’wood when I was a kid. Gosh, how time flies and I agree, he gave a better performance here than Untouchables.
He really did. I still love watching that one just to see Sean. Now what they should have done was a followup to that, it would have been great.
‘Indiana Jones and that Stupid Crystal Skull’ was the last movie I saw at a theater. I felt ripped off at the time. I do not watch it now if it shows up on free tv!
Shia swinging thru the jungle, bad special effects, bad story.
The new Indiana Jones movie has a woman taking over the role. Indiana is involved in time travel and dies in the story.
Whatever. Crystal Skull was a good movie. Not the best movie of all time, but good solid entertainment. Most importantly is it still felt like an Indiana Jones movie, especially the beginning sequence with the Russians and Area 51.
Indiana Jones is an obtainer of rare antiquities, not just a religious artifact treasure hunter. It’s mind blowing how simplistic and easily manipulated people have become to other people’s opinions on films (and music and other entertainment). So, a couple of big timer reviewers didn’t like Crystal Skull, so that means you’re not supposed to like it either. I guess you better proclaim your hatred for the movie to be with the cool people online.

I liked the movie. I try to manage my expectations. Not every movie has to be the greatest.
I enjoyed “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”. It was fun, and I was entertained the whole time. I got my money’s worth.
Everything about that movie was a mistake.
The kind of mistake that made me want to hunt down the script writer and clockwork orange him (her?) until they learned the difference between the Inca and the Maya and the difference between Peru and Belize.
Would it have been so hard for them to have put the setting in Belize?
Saying one movie is worse than another seems a pointless exercise when they all suck.
