President Joe Biden on Friday fumed about a 10-year-old girl in Ohio who was forced to go to another state to get an abortion after she was raped, using the dramatic story to make the case for Democrats to vote this November.
Biden raised his voice as he recounted the story, grasping the podium with both hands as he railed about the trauma the girl must have faced and the unfairness of the situation.
'She was forced to have to travel out of state to Indian to seek to terminate the pregnancy and maybe save her life. That's the last part is my judgment,' he said, speaking in the Roosevelt Room at the White House with Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra at his side.
'Imagine being that little girl. I'm serious, just imagine being that little girl. 10 years old!,' he said pointing his finger at the camera.
'A 10-year-old girl should be forced to give birth to a rapist's child?,' he said. 'I can't think of anything that's much more extreme.'
The case made national news after it was revealed a child abuse doctor in Ohio sought the help of Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist, to help a 10-year-old girl get an abortion after Ohio banned the procedure after six weeks - hours after the 6-3 Supreme Court vote, The Columbus Dispatch reported.
The child was six weeks and three days pregnant - therefore, ineligible by just three days to receive the procedure in her home state.
In his remarks, Biden targeted the Supreme Court justices directly, calling them 'out of control' and arguing they were working with exteremist Republicans to take away Americans' rights.

Doubtful story. A pregnancy in a 10-year-old constitutes a real threat to her life, and an abortion under those circumstances has always been legal, and is moral in my opinion.

At 10, how did she even know she was pregnant? At 6 weeks, there's no movement.
Impossible to know that she was exactly 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Story is a lot of baloney.
I agree. I won’t say it never happens but it’s got to be extremely rare.
Nothing said about the alleged abuser being arrested and prosecuted, as others have mentioned.
How far is it from Ohio to Indiana, anyway? (Closer than Disney World, I suspect)
Finally, IIRC, back before RVW, most states had exceptions in their abortion laws to allow for cases where continuing the pregnancy could be a threat to the mother’s life or health. I expect there will be those exceptions again. I don’t know where Ohio law stands on that, right now.
I don’t believe this case actually exists, however. It sounds like the most extreme case someone could dream up. You know, don’t let the “facts” get in the way of the “truth!”

Unless they name the rapist and show his mug shot, I’m going to assume this is a hoax.

This is of a greater concern than the fact that a 10-year-old child is pregnant, and cannot get an abortion in the state in which her family lives. Any male who would abuse a child in this manner is both nasty and brutish, and his life should be forfeit in any just world.
But we do not live in a just world, or even a very pragmatic one. It is all about who can be blamed, and how that blame should have consequences steeped in flaming emotions, without regard for the justice or practical implications.
