Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is within single digits of ex-President Donald Trump in a new national poll, the closest he’s been in this or any other reputable poll — and that’s before Tuesday’s bombshell testimony.
A sample of Republican and Republican-leaning respondents to a new Yahoo! News/YouGov poll were asked “Who would you rather see as the Republican nominee for President in 2024?” and given a choice between Trump and DeSantis.
Among registered voters, 45 percent prefer Trump, while 36 percent prefer DeSantis — a nine-point difference that normally wouldn’t seem very close.
But for Trump, in a reputable Republican primary poll, it’s the closest anyone has gotten.

I definitely want Trump in 2024. (I hope he’ll have honed his skills in personnel choices and management by then.)
Then I definitely want DeSantis 2028 and 2032, even if I’m not around to enjoy it by then. FL is a microcosm of the country, and his decisions there will confirm to all that there is no other choice but him. There are several VP possibilities on deck, Candace Owens for one.
If you truly believe “that’s all that matters” I feel sorry for you.
Election fraud is #1 in the All-That-Matters category.
man FLA is my second home...(wishing it was my first) and i’m scared to death florida will turn blue if desantis leaves it. I firmly believe the chances of straightening out DC is futile. it’s down to the security of individual states now. js....
Bullshit.
“the country doesn’t want another near-octogenarian president.”
That’s too broad a brush. My mom is a nonogenarian, and will be a centenarian in two years. She would make better political decisions than most GOP pols in their 50s do.
If you think Trump lost in 2020, you’re the one that’s insane.
“I don’t want DeSantis challenging Trump, because it takes two
of our leading men, and pits them to tear the other one down.”
Excellent point. The best point so far. And I kind-of think DeSantis has that same idea which would keep him from running if PDJT announces.
If Trump does run again, I want to know upfront who his team will be. We cannot afford the same bad hires of his first term.
Fixed it.
desantis is currently running for reelection for florida governor this year (2022)...
he’ll be sworn in january 2023...
people that believe he’s going to start a presidential campaign in 2023 are dreaming...
“If Trump does run again, I want to know upfront who his team will be.”
That’s logical and fair. Frankly, after a couple of his 2022 endorsements, I’m not 100% confident that much has changed.
He needs to get advisors other than Javanka this time around. Navarro, DeSantis, Bannon, etc.
Excellent post! It made me realize something the neverTrumpers aren’t seeing in their lust to divide D.Trump from his supporters....invoking DeSantis as a foil is DE FACTO giving Ron DeSantis the name recognition boost he will need in 2028 to run for President. Something I don’t think they were counting on happening. Not to mention, being a Florida resident and voter, we are NOT giving up our “Best Governor Ever” to the wolves who only want him in the national limelight to destroy him personally. Like they do to ANYONE who
Stands up to them on behalf of the people.
I’ve come to realize that polling serves one purpose and one purpose only; and that is to gauge the effect of the political propaganda that the mainstream media puts out all the time.
even if he starts polling ahead of Trump he wont run if Trump runs.
rintintin does not "fall for these articles", he is a pimp and a Trump hater that should be over at DU and not at FR.
Any person that uses a dog's name as his screen name is not to be trusted.
YEP!
Not to mention the BS polls...
Thank you, and I agree about DeSantis mindset.
This has nothing to do with primaries. These BS polls are designed to create division within our own party. DeSantis has already said he will not run if Trump runs.
