No surprise later if the three residents were involved in the drug trade.

Exactly. Could be a drug deal gone bad. More facts are needed before anyone praises or condemns this incident.

“ Exactly. Could be a drug deal gone bad.‘

or just an attempted drug dealer rip off/robbery - very common in certain areas.

And this is why we have the 2nd amendment. Go out and purchase weapons and ammo, folks. Other crazies could enter your house next.

Even so, one crime is not contingent upon another.

They could be peaceful, law abiding folks who were targeted because they were.

I don’t like the residents being called suspects either. As far as charges being submitted, it’s standard procedure in some locales to let a grand jury decide whether killings are lawful or not. To me the grand jury option is just a way for cowardly DAs in those locales to avoid making a decision on their own (which they are fully authorized to do), but doesn’t sound like the residents have much to worry about.

I bet the “suspects” fired fewer shots than a police shootout would have entailed.

That would be a separate issue.

Humorous aside: back in the 90s I used to to the photo finishing for a small city’s PD. Normally it would only be processing negative but on occassion they would ask for prints.

On one such occassion the Detective bringing in the film was so tickled by the circumstances he’d just encountered that he felt the need to share the story.

A man’s home had been robbed and he had called the police. While he was describing all that had been stolen he was asked if that was all.

“No, they got my stash.”

The Detective said he had to suppress the urge to laugh before he asked for more detail.

The man told how much of what there had been and that it had been hidden in his spare bong.

When asked what the bong looked like he produced the bong he used and said it looked just like this one.

At that point in telling the story the Detective was so amused that he started laughing and never finished where he started reading the guy his rights.

They were victims, who defended the selves succesfully, not suspects.

I wo Der if the author when covering rape stories states “the suspect, (the woman who was raped,) defended herself and cause bodily injury to the victims who raped her”

Home invasions are a dangerous activity in Arizona, for the invaders.

“In front of the home” hopefully not well written.

That’s not the best neighborhood in the Phoenix area. Everybody there is armed for good reason.

What do they mean by “suspects”? The men defending themselves committed no crime.

The residents are considered suspected drug dealers or warehousers. That is the default assumption whenever police investigate an armed home invasion.

Looks like the police came up empty-handed with that assumption.

The police found nothing that incriminated the residents. The "tell" is that none of them were charged with a crime, although it appears they were arrested and then released.

They aren't going to get their weapons back.

Yes, they will, under Arizona law.

An interesting observation here. They forced their way into the home but apparently were shot “outside” the home?

It’s the correct term - but maybe we can come up with a better term... These are the people suspected to have shot the criminal scum... OK, that’s true. But once it’s ‘justified’ and ‘defense’... they should be called ‘heroic citizens’
