PHOENIX — Two men were killed after allegedly forcing their way into a home near 24th Street and McDowell Road Saturday morning.
Just before 8 a.m., police were called to the scene at a home in Phoenix.
Officials say when officers arrived, 20-year-old Jairo Perez and 24-year-old Jose Gutierrez were found with gunshot wounds in front of a home.
Both men were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. They later confirmed both of the men had died.
Police say the three occupants of the home were detained peacefully as suspects.
During interviews, investigators say the three suspects "provided consistent stories of self-defense stating the two men forced their way into the home."
The three suspects have since been released, according to police, and that charges will be submitted for review.
They got forced into eternity. We need more stories like this.

I’m inclined to want to beat the article author with a rubber hose.
I do not like that they are calling the residents “suspects”.
What do they mean by “suspects”? The men defending themselves committed no crime.
They were inconveniencing the female…
“I do not like that they are calling the residents “suspects””
I agree. There is obviously a bit more to this story, but in typical modern “journalist” practice, there is an obvious fog added to this story which raises suspicion.
I bet if the two young men, who have been spared of a life of crime had been successful in their home invasion, they would have been called “persons of interest” by the same fish wrap.
I love a story with a happy ending.
Me too!
“I do not like that they are calling the residents “suspects”.”
Bingo.
Lock those gerbilists up for being heavily biased.
Refer to them as “suspects” and “that charges will be submitted”. Sigh.
I lived in Phoenix back in 69 and that area was sketchey then. It’s gotta be way worse now.
Do you remember a decade or so ago that it was widely proclaimed that it cost the state $40,000 or so to keep each criminal behind bars? The ObaMao administration had someone huff and puff that it would be cheaper to send them to Harvard.
Another study estimated that each criminal cost society an average of $250,000 annually when they were out of prison. So that made the $40,000 a bargain. A cheap cremation for $1,000 or so makes shooting them an even bigger bargain.
You’re too kind.
No surprise later if the three residents were involved in the drug trade.
Suspects = people of interest?
“I do not like that they are calling the residents “suspects”.”
Well, this is ABC15 in Phoenix. This news story is actually fairer than I would expect from them.
My gut reaction is the “suspect” label came from the author not the Phoenix PD.
Why cremate perfectly good cadavers that could be used in medical school dissection labs?
