Joanna Jones, 39, was flying to London from Antigua when her 14-year-old daughter Poppy needed oxygen and two EpiPen shots during the nightmare eight-hour flight after suffering a severe reaction to the nuts.
As Poppy's condition worsened, a quick-thinking nurse on board dashed to help - while the captain considered making an emergency landing.
Eventually the pilot landed the plane safely at Gatwick and Poppy was rushed to hospital.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Joanna said: ’It was a nightmare for all of us and I really thought she might die.

Since peanuts are the number one allergy, or in the top three. I think that by feeding your toddler son peanuts, you immunized him against other common child and adult allergies too. Peanuts take some chewing for a toddler, so this also helped his teeth development.
Utter BS. If that were the case these people would be living in a minefield and wouldn’t survive a week outside of a hermetically sealed bubble. Peanuts are literally EVERYWHERE.
This reminds me of the mask mandates and all the stupidity surrounding it.
...chicken pox parties in the 50s...
________________________
I was born in 1943. We did have chickenpox parties late 40s-early 50s. Simple measles (NOT German Measles) parties, as well. The reasoning was these illnesses are minor in kids, but can endanger adults to a larger degree, so everyone wanted to get them out of the way as early as possible.
I had a child in the mid-60s who was asthmatic and MD would not give MMR because it was grown in eggs, then. My child had no food allergies at all. Doc was being cautious. Same child has never had a vax except polio & dPT or any of the childhood illnesses and is today 57 and still asthmatic.
DH and I had all the childhood illnesses and recovered w/no complications. Only had polio, pertussis, tetanus, diphtheria shots. Had to have Yellow fever vax for travel in the Western Pacific in 1975. Had C19 & Omicron, NBD for us. No C19 vax.
We are elderly with comorbidities making the vax problematic. Medical community unsympathetic, so we now avoid them.
But I guess they needed to get where they were going.
At the risk of their daughters life? (According to them.) Now who is being the @$$hole?
If the flight crew tells you to do something, you do it. It doesn’t matter what you may be ‘thinking’.
To me, that’s the issue here. It can be argued that someone that sensitive shouldn’t fly; and it can also be argued that the actual attack was brought on by peanut debris elsewhere on the plane.
But while I would have no problem flying with someone who has a severe allergy, I’d have a real problem with someone who willfully defied an order from the crew.
“I love arm chair detectives and psychiatrists.”
Okay, what medical/psych degrees do you hold? I’m willing to be set straight by facts, not snark.
understood
Many people like me put the empty peanut bag in the magazine holder on the back of the seat in front so you can immediately flip the tray back up. Those bags can empty the crumps into it and some of those holders are netting, which means the crumbs go on the floor.
because they needed to get home?
and were the bags opened then closed or was a ass sitting there chomping peanuts.
10 rows ahead?
Seriously if they were that concerned, have the flight crew trade for a snack of something better.
Yes, it’s somewhat the same. This story is as much about the precursor event that those with no ability to think critically miss - why did the parent even board the plane without protection?
The commonality with the mask bit is the concept that it is upon the individual to take care of society at large as opposed to taking care of themselves. Hence, per covid, if you were sensitive, you take certain steps. Those knowing your sensitivity act accordingly, however they do not take on the responsibility for the entire world’s health.
I also detest the term “social distance”. The real term is “personal space”, but that term is not allowed in a socialist system because we have that individual thing going again.
And then all the cheese dust and pretzel-allergic passengers would get in a snit.
We live in a age of self-diagnosed designer diseases. This is one of them.
***I *** have had anaphylaxis and almost died while I was in the hospital post op.
You are sick.
Masks don’t work for covid, peanuts, or the occasional strong fart. Masks don’t work. (I suspect you know that.)
Soon to come will be cracker allergies.
And make sure the cracker packets dont have peanut butter in them.
Thats what I was thinking but unsure.
I have a lot of severe allergies and have been living with them all my life, I don’t expect the world to stop what they are doing to accommodate me—I plan ahead and if I had an allergy this severe I’d probably spend my life in hiding rather than expect everyone else to accommodate me.
Not if I was allergic and knew that there would be idiots who had no regard for my safety.
So, a nurse attending to a child, administering O2 and having to administer TWO epipens isn’t enough for you along with the captain considering making a medical emergency landing, DOCTOR ASSHOLE?
