Newly released body camera footage reveals the sickening moment a deputy and a dirt bike rider were engulfed in flames after the officer fired a taser at a gas station.
Deputy David Crawford was heard screaming in pain and begging his fellow officers to 'put out' the fire on his legs as he desperately rolled around.
Meanwhile his victim, dirt bike rider Jean Barreto, 26, was 'cooked alive' in the fireball which left him with third-degree burns on approximately 75% of his body.
Both remain in hospital after the February 27 incident at the Wawa gas station in Florida. But Crawford will likely face misdemeanor charges of culpable negligence for igniting the explosion, Osceola County Sheriff Marco López said.
Police are also planning to charge Barreto with several charges, including resisting arrest, if he survives.
Osceola County Sheriff have released body cam footage of the incident this week under mounting pressure from the victim's family and the media.
The first is from Crawford's camera and shows him approaching the gas pumps where Barreto was filling his bike before tackling to the ground.
'Get off the bike! Get on the ground now,' Crawford can be heard yelling in the video as a fellow officer pulls out his Taser and fires it at him.
Footage shows gasoline pouring onto the ground after the officers failed to allow Barreto to put on his gas tank before they tackled him.
Crawford acknowledges the gas, saying: 'Kill the pump, kill the pump, there's gas' and his fellow officer drops the Taser.
But Crawford then picks it up, warning: 'You're about to get tasered again, dude,' the fires the Taser.

How is this “fleeing the police” when the biker dude is stopping to gas up? Seems like the cops got the wrong guy. In any case what was wrong with just blocking him in with their cruisers? The geniousity is rampant.
The officer endangered himself and everyone in the gas station by his ill-advised use of a taser on someone who was filling their motorcycle with gasoline.
Spin it any way you want, we do not need cops with such poor decision-making ability.
I’m well aware of what goes on in Maryland with motorcycles and ATVs.
Ask yourself why that stuff does NOT happen in Virginia.

They stopped chasing him with their cruisers b/c they did not want to endanger the public. The helicopter surveilled him to the gas station. This guy knew he was being arrested and resisted. Look, I feel pity for this dope. Nobody deserves to become a shish-kabob for fleeing the cops. But bad things virtually never happen to people who obey lawful police orders (even unlawful ones, as well).

I noticed when the cop with his feet on fire was screaming and crying like a little baby, the other cop(s) were there supporting him through his crying and begging. Meanwhile, the dirt bike rider lay on the ground and not a soul around.
You’re damned right police out of control - and babies to boot, IMO. I hope that guy if he lives (or his family) takes the whole damned town as payment for what their police did.
I’m incensed, too, but the begging and crying was done by the cop with his feet on fire. I thought it was the biker at first but then at the last cutaway clip to the cop on the ground crying you see it was him making the noise.

Other reports say the dude they were after was seen with a gun. Barreto had no gun. I really think they got the wrong guy.
If there was a helicopter following him then there should be footage of it showing that the biker could be the same one (e., same color helmet, same color bike, etc.). In this day and age of our illustrious LE like the FBI, I don’t take their word for it.

And that's the thing that bugs me most about some of the knee-jerk posts I've been reading. Based on an assumption that they had the right guy anything that followed was acceptable.
Whomever the miscreant turns out to be, this will prove to be a lifetime of misery for the victim and an extraordinarily expensive screw-up for the city.
And the thugs who committed this atrocity will likely get off scott free.

Didn’t the video show him fleeing the police? Like I said. Yield to police commands and sort it out later. The police made a bad mistake using a Taser at the gas pump but when someone flees from them they probably assume they are also armed and in any case they patd a high price for their mistake.

Look, son, you should be on the BLM chat rooms, not FR. Always so judgmental of the police, like anyone would have anticipated that the motorcyclist would have been BBQ’ed. Cops make split-second decisions all of the time under pressure. Sometimes their decisions end in bad results. That’s why you shouldn’t run from the cops or resist arrest, as you raise the % chance that a bad outcome will occur. BTW, I am a criminal defense attorney, so I’m not a police “cheerleader.”
