Newly released body camera footage reveals the sickening moment a deputy and a dirt bike rider were engulfed in flames after the officer fired a taser at a gas station.
Deputy David Crawford was heard screaming in pain and begging his fellow officers to 'put out' the fire on his legs as he desperately rolled around.
Meanwhile his victim, dirt bike rider Jean Barreto, 26, was 'cooked alive' in the fireball which left him with third-degree burns on approximately 75% of his body.
Both remain in hospital after the February 27 incident at the Wawa gas station in Florida. But Crawford will likely face misdemeanor charges of culpable negligence for igniting the explosion, Osceola County Sheriff Marco López said.
Police are also planning to charge Barreto with several charges, including resisting arrest, if he survives.
Osceola County Sheriff have released body cam footage of the incident this week under mounting pressure from the victim's family and the media.
The first is from Crawford's camera and shows him approaching the gas pumps where Barreto was filling his bike before tackling to the ground.
'Get off the bike! Get on the ground now,' Crawford can be heard yelling in the video as a fellow officer pulls out his Taser and fires it at him.
Footage shows gasoline pouring onto the ground after the officers failed to allow Barreto to put on his gas tank before they tackled him.
Crawford acknowledges the gas, saying: 'Kill the pump, kill the pump, there's gas' and his fellow officer drops the Taser.
But Crawford then picks it up, warning: 'You're about to get tasered again, dude,' the fires the Taser.

If only the guy had flashed his white privilege card.
I never had a problem with State Police but when I was a young man the local yokels would constantly bust my balls simply because I had long hair. There were several times during harassment stops by cops that I feared for my life. I am extremely leery of cops, especially after seeing who the vast majority of cops backed during covid arrests and harassments.
The video was a shitshow of overzealous cops doing panicky, brainless things when a cool headed approach to the perp would have gotten the job done without destroying the lives of two people and their loved ones.
Someone has been smoking too much shit.
I sure hope dimbulb officer thinks long and hard about what the guy he tased is going through since he now knows how it feels.
I have no sympathy for the officer and young stupidity does not justify what happened to this cyclist.
There were certainly far better ways to deal with the situation than what he did.
That’ll teach you.
Cops are supposed to get training about using a taser, and part of that training includes information about the possibility that a taser could ignite flammable gasses and vapors, such as those from gasoline.
This was not an accident, it resulted from intentional acts with reckless disregard for the victim's life on the part of the police. Extreme negligence would be what I'd call it and it should certainly be charged as criminal negligence. If he dies it would be criminally negligent homicide.
There's no way for anyone in their right mind to defend this.
What does patriotism have to do with one ashhole catching on fire because of another ashhole? YOU, my friend, are one of the reasons we corporately, as a Country, find ourselves in this position of lawless morons. There ARE NO consequences to stupid behavior if you continue to view it from one side or the other. Stupid is as stupid does. If someone jumps off of a ten story building and dies as a result who would YOU blame it on? The builders? The window manufacturer? The building designer? Where does the stupidity stop? Motorcycle guy? Stupid! Cop? Stupid! Don’t add yourself to the stupid column.
I’m guessing the deputy is not a member of Mensa.
You have to be extra dumb to fir a taser in a gas station
I’ve seen a sticker that stuck in my memory cuz it was so simple and it’s worked

Interacting with Law Enforcement ?
It’s Simple
1 Follow instructions
2 Do Not threaten officer
3 Do not resist arrest
4 have a nice peaceful day
/\
Bad circumstances ( gas, taser)
Bad decisions
Bad outcome.

Hi.
The state sanctions the police. The state and police will mess you up. Guilty or not. Always comply with LEOs. Live to see your day in court.
If you are arrested, see the STFU Friday Bros for more details.
This has been a public service announcement.

The victim in this case was clearly riding his bike extremely recklessly. He deserved to get arrested for that.
Given the situation, I understand why they thought he was armed. Using the taser right next to a fuel pump was a really bad decision though. That part was obviously negligent. The arrest was fine.
Cops are the dumbest of society. Proof yet again.
You aren’t any brighter than the officer with the taser. Young cocks always end up in the pot before they mature, while the ones that know when not to spur and whom not to spur end up living to a ripe old age with a nice flock of hens to cluck with.
Hmmm, where’s the “back the blue” now?

Do you know how many “trainings” cops get? Probably 100 or more. I see people smoking at gas pumps all of the time. I see people leaving their cars unattended at gas stations all of the time while pumping gas, which is contra the posted signs. This incident was caused by the dirtbag crotch-rocket rider who decided to endanger the public by recklessly driving through traffic, causing a police chase and helicopter surveillance. Then he resisted arrest, endangering the police. Perhaps, technically, the officer was negligent, but these sanctimonious anti-police FREERPERS need to cool it.
Who does that then stops for gas?

A helicopter surveilled him the whole time. Same color bike and helmet as the one the police originally spotted. His behavior upon being approached by the police would suggest that he is guilty. These guys break the law every second they are on their bikes. They are a nuisance. We just had two of them killed here in Maryland. These things should be ridden off road or out in the rural areas.
Best thing to do is to let every suspect go and maybe catch them cold on their next law breaking venture..
