Army Chief of Staff Admits Recruiting Difficulties Will Leave Force Too Small

Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville admitted Thursday during a Senate hearing that the Army’s recruiting difficulties and its plan to reduce numbers accordingly would leave the force too small.

The Army is reducing its total active-duty force numbers over the next several years due to recruiting difficulties — an unprecedented step, according to some military experts.

The Army announced in March that the end strength, or total number of forces, would go from 485,000 active-duty soldiers currently to 476,000 in fiscal year 2022, which ends in September, and further down to 473,000 in fiscal year 2023. It is the lowest it has been since World War II, according to the Military Times.

Senate Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Jim Inhofe (R-IN) called it “more serious than any recruiting challenge that I’ve experienced in the years that I’ve been here.”

Note: To all those young males who would have joined the USA military (before the Obama/Biden wokeism regime), you can now join your local militia chapter in anticipation when the USA collapses. Your skills will be needed to take out the garbage when it comes time for it.

All by design, the Left wants a Draft. To them the military is the biggest social program of all.

I sure hope the hell we don't restart the draft. Completely unfair to the relatively low percentage of people who would actually carry the burden of fighting.

More importantly, the mandatory CRT, LGBTQ, etc. "training" requires young men and women to sit through it, without objection, and to at least appear to adopt those values as their own. If they speak out against it, they are subject to discipline, up to and including courts-martial.

It's bad enough to do that to volunteers who join the military of their own free will, and thereby at least arguably consented to undergo that training. It is beyond immoral to force young men and women into the military, and then subject them to that brainwashing. In my opinion, reinstitution of the draft under these conditions would justify armed resistance.

I don’t blame anyone who doesn’t want to be part of the new Army. We saw it coming 30 yrs ago and we let it slide. They turned the American Army into a branch of the Democrat party. Its not about a specific Party, its about our Country. Keep the politics out of the services. To our enemies, we only look like a bunch of snowflakes in uniform. We are soft, we need to be hardened. We need dedicated hard warriors, but we are loosing them. No one is counting on the Wokes or those confused gender types that may be in the combat arms. I am afraid, even with a draft, we will be screwed. What exists today has to be turned around, damn we need a good **** General, but we ran out of them.

You are right — none of the brass will ask “What could have caused this?”

They don’t need to ask, they know already, it’s planned this way. The last vesting of hardened men, of warriors, that are committed to America is to be squashed. You’ve been witness to it since 08’. The Trump years were a roadblock, with it removed... full steam ahead, off the cliff.

You're right about that, gator. I was on active duty at the start of the AVF, 76-84. I remember what it was like at 80% strength during the Carter Administration...that part wasn't fun.

My 4+ years in Germany were among the most rewarding experiences of my entire life. The Army treated me very well, and most of the bad memories have faded.

Having said that, I would not recommend to any male that they enlist in the military. The chain of command has broken down, our senior officers have forgotten the lessons of Once an Eagle, favoring the career climbing tactics of Courtney Massengale over the stout leadership of Sam Damon.

The trump card in my deck was that I never planned on making the military a career. Why did I stay in 8 years, when I could've gotten out after 4? That's easy, I was having too much fun. I was back at Fort Bliss, working for my old battalion commander from Germany.

It was through Providence that we lived in the same apartment complex in El Paso. I was (lol) his "aide-de-camp", going out for beers or riding shotgun at bars and nightclubs. He offered me a job as his Operations Officer, a position young Captains normally aren't found.

My final objective was to have a Battery Command. Once I completed that job, I reached my ceiling. At that time, 60% of Captains were promoted to Major. I didn't like my chances, and I wasn't going to be stuck in lousy positions waiting to passed over twice before separation.

The experiences I had are not likely to be found today. The military ethos that was there before women were introduced into combat arms has been neutered. I was lucky, my unit (Chaparral/Vulcan, short range ADA) never allowed women into it. I saw what it did to Nike-Hercules batteries, the effect on morale when women were inserted there, before the facilities on site were upgraded to handle women. Nope, not for me.

LOLOL, I remember an incident in Germany, that surely would have ended my career, instead of receiving an apology from the Group Commander.

A black female 2nd LT was sent as a member of the evaluation team to inspect my S-4 (Supply Section). I couldn't be there, as I had to be in the Colonel's briefing, leaving my Spec 4 to handle any questions.

It wasn't his fault that he couldn't answer all of her questions, and I'm sure he was intimidated by the LT. Imagine my surprise when the Colonel stated, "the only issue we had was the financial management in the S-4 Section."

Before the Colonel reached his sedan, I was on the phone with the LT's boss, the Group S-4. I told him that LT was no longer welcome in my building, and I gave him the list of "problems" she found.

Apparently, my counterpart had a discussion with the Group Commander. That afternoon, my battalion commander called me into his office (same guy I'd go to work for at Fort Bliss). With a wry grin, he said "I just got off the phone with the Group Commander, he apologized for his comments about your section yesterday."

Apologies for the length, but I take the chain of command very seriously. Our officer corps' is much too political, and have strayed from performing the missions they are assigned to. I am not going to recommend to my sons and nephews that they join the military. I won't stop them, but I'll give them the facts they need before listening to a sweet talking, bull-spitting recruiting officer.

Platoons will now have to identify as Companies, and Companies as Battalions. Corps are right out.

I remember that book. Sam Damon and Courtney Masingale always a step ahead in the ranks it seemed.

My boy made O-3 when he was 25, and a lot of people such as myself felt that he would go Career. He opted out though just because of issues related to the Field Grade Officers moving up as you mentioned. The last straw for him was his CO putting himself in for a Bronze Star when he never even was involved in combat operations in Iraq. He was very dissatisfied by the time he got into his 4th year. It seems likely that he will not encourage his own boy to go in, thus likely ending a 5 generation tradition of Army Service.

Incidentaly, I did my 3 years in K-Town, 77-80, easy duty. I went to a lot of Bases and Kasernes though. You were likely in Wildflecken, Hohenfels, Grafenwoer, or Vilsek, though there are multiple other possibilities.

As long as this crowd is in power it will be a “draft into enforced wokeness”. At least with a continued volunteer military you can choose to ignore it by not joining.

You take just the men, not the weapons or the tech, in today’s Army, and send them back in time to the beaches of Normandy — I doubt that Army has the stuff to make it to Berlin.

Here’s the democrat plan:

Drive out conservatives...men and women of all races who considered joining the military a ‘service to the country’.

Tell soldiers to find safe spots and open up their ‘feelings’ to the sensitive trans people in their ranks.

Deal with the consequesnces of stupid choices...

When people stop seeing the army as a defender of liberty and instead see the brass as a WOKE ‘elites’ experiment they’ll stop re-upping and stop joining.

That’s happening now. Next?

The ‘elites’ will turn to their butt boys in the press and cry they can’t get the people to join. They’ll demand a draft - a draft that includes women. (But not the children of ‘elites’ - male or female or ‘other’ because ‘elites’ get a pass)

When citizens object to drafting young women - they’ll do a trade off and LOWER STANDARDS - accept illegals and criminals.

When a War breaks out and the new mercenary ‘army’ deserts they can shoot them or crawl into a safe spot... Yes, we’ll lose to China or to the Cartels or North Korea but by that time most citizens won’t see that big a difference between our thugs and/or some other country’s thugs.

And later...

There will come a day when Gen. James McConville, Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Jim Inhofe and Gen. Mark Milley will understand it’s easier to destroy an institution than to attempt to rebuild one that’s hated. And they’ll go back into the cell the Chinese have built for them.
