Damn, I didn't realize Naomi Judd killed herself. I just assumed that at 76, she died of old age.
I think the lockdown certainly did affect these kids very badly. Isolation is not normal for anybody, but especially not for teenagers.
Yeah, I realize a lot of the moms in the toddler beauty pageant industry tout it as being innocent and wholesome, the whole thing strikes me as creepy.
I'd guess a lot of girls leave these pageants pretty messed up.
I'd never watched the show and while I'd seen the "grinning girl" meme a thousand times, I didn't realize it was from a TV show.
So sad. I can almost guarantee her mother pushed her too far. This isn’t something father’s involve themselves. Perhaps occasionally, but not as a rule.
I knew of only family (friends of my family) that did that shtick right.
They happened to have a very photogenic baby as a newlywed couple struggling to get started in life. She appeared in ads (paid very well) and won beautiful baby type contests. The parents invested every penny into her college fund, so they were freed from having to put savings aside from Dad’s salary, allowing the wife to be a stay-at-home Mom. When she turned two, they stopped all ad appearances and contests completely, allowing her to grow up as a normal kid.
No student loan debt for her, and she turned out to be happy, healthy, accomplished, happily married, and a great Mom to her three kids now in their teens.
Which audio bible did you get?
Fathers tend to do it with sons, see Murry Wilson and Joe Jackson.
One of my first thoughts. Tired of high expectations.
That’s cool. Good to hear a positive story n this.
Or in sports, Todd Marinovich.
Oh my heart! Little plastic Barbie. What is the message to such a young child? “You’re not good enough as you are, as God created you, precious child of God and God’s very special unique gift to Mommy and Daddy, loved for yourself alone”?
This is utterly heartbreaking!
The sexualization aspect is beyond nauseating, and I don’t have the stomach to write more.
I can’t believe mothers do this to their daughters. Wait. Yes I can. I’ve seen that certain type.
No they kept saying she died of ‘mental illness’ Then they finally admitted she killed herself ...
“Maybe she grew tired of being exploited?”
You’re very likely spot on with this comment.
It’s only cool because the parents stopped it all completely when she turned two. She has no memory of the ad shoots for baby products, etc. One was really cute of her, a toy company ad stacking these puffy colorful blocks and clapping when they fell down. So precious! It was all natural, no fake stuff other than a light puff of powder dusting for the lights — and babies get their powder dusting in hot weather anyway, at least back then.
The thing is, the parents were practical and pragmatic. Given their circumstances, it seemed wrong not to take advantage of an opportunity to secure her future when she was a little baby, but also wrong to put her through the pageant and ad audition circuit when she got older. So they took the opportunity so long as there was no harm to the baby, stopped dead when she reached the age it could become harmful.
The entire beauty pageant business is bad news for the females. Decades ago natural beauty was the key to success. Surgery changed all that. The entire contest is based on vanities. The results are predictable.
I once was working with a model I knew. Between events she said she wished her jaw line was a little different and that her legs had better form, etc. etc.. I then asked her, “God gave you all this beauty and all you do is bitch about it. What do you think God thinks of you now?” She stormed off and that was that. A couple of years later I saw her at a restaurant with a protective entourage; she had become quite successful. When she saw me she broke out of the crowd and thanked me, saying that had changed her life.
I have several...LOL! With some of them I couldn’t even get through Genesis because the narrator was horrible.
Finally, for my “walking around” version I picked the “Listener’s Bible,” narrated by Max McLean. It’s the NIV, which is a pretty good translation. The narrator is British but not overly theatrical.
Hope this helps!
Show business is a sewer, populated by some of the most evil people and some of the most damaged people in the entire world. My daughter was an immensely attractive and adorable child, and I lost count of the number of people (almost always women) who told us that she ought to be a model or actress. They were often highly offended when I said “over my dead body” and told them precisely what I thought of the entertainment industry.
There you go. One often never knows how much good one does another when speaking from the heart and spirit of God’s love to another person. You were Blessed to find out the good that did her — and a precious lesson for you!
And of course, she was Blessed to have you in her life. Well done, faithful servant.
On to more Earthly concerns. Yes, the plastic surgery craze is troubling. Too many teens just do it automatically, thinking they have to look like those fake “celebrities” and social media “stars”. So sad.
Reading the parents statements, it makes me wonder how the kid lasted this long. I cannot imagine putting that kind of pressure on a child.
Thanks! My current favorite is David Cochran Heath reading the ESV. I also bought one of him reading the King James version.
