"Toddlers and Tiaras" star Kailia Posey tragically took her own life at the age of just 16, her family says, in a gut-wrenching statement.
Posey's family tells TMZ, "Although she was an accomplished teenager with a bright future ahead of her, unfortunately in one impetuous moment, she made the rash decision to end her earthly life."
The family is devastated, listing everything Kailia had ahead of her and her accomplishments during her 16 years, saying, "She won countless crowns & trophies after competing on the pageant circuit her entire life ... Her highly acclaimed talent as a contortionist had already led to professional touring job offers, and she had recently been selected to be a cheerleader at her high school next fall.
Not only that, Kailia's family says she had a love for aviation, and had plans to continue to work in the entertainment industry while pursuing her goal of a commercial pilot's license.
TMZ broke the story, the 16-year-old who first found fame on the popular TLC show -- even becoming a popular GIF as 'Grinning Girl' -- died Monday in Washington. At the time, her mom posted, "I don't have words or any thoughts. A beautiful baby girl is gone. Please give us privacy as we mourn the loss of Kailia. My baby forever".
Her family has set up a fund, at the Whatcom Community Foundation in her name with the goal of providing resources to help students in crisis.

Most know her as the "grinning girl" meme:
Very sad story.

Maybe she grew tired of being exploited? 🤪
What in the world is happening to young people? This is terrible and I can’t imagine what pressures are making them do this.
Prayers for this young woman.
Fame does not bring happiness, quite often the opposite.
Those shows always creep me out.

Child abuse. Very sad.
Very sad. No parent should ever have their children go to “Hollywood”.
How many horrific stories are there?
This is going to increase exponentially. When you’re constantly being told the planet is going to die in 10 years and boys can become girls and vice-versa, what do people think was going to happen?
Maybe she was tires of having to do so much, in addition to school work and person social things just with friends.
It’s not like she had a normal youth experience.
Too bad. Expectations of her kept going up until they exploded, it appears.
Damn. That’s sad as hell.
RIP 😢
Agree with you. Pushing a kid to be a Beauty Queen at such a young age sets up all kinds of self-hate mechanisms when she doesn’t succeed.
Those shows are sickening. Even Honey BooBoo was a cute kid but as any man knows, look at the mom to see what your wife will look like in a few years.
I wince every time a poster, in any forum, displays their cute kids. Wrong thing to do.
More and more are growing up with no foundations.
Youth suicide is absolutely at its peak. It doesn’t matter whether they’re successful or nerds or somewhere in between.
I think it’s because most of them do not believe in God, have no religious foundation, and are just emotional teenagers (disconnected and living only on-line after two years of insane isolation, thanks to the government) who take the permanent solution to a temporary problem because they don’t think they really matter in the universe.
So just pray for this poor girl. God knows all things and understands all things.
Terrible idea. Only worse is the stickers on the back window of their car.
Good information gathering for pedophiles…
“Hey, your mom is picking up your older brother and sister and asked me to get you. How are the two dogs doing?…”
Very sad. RIP.
