Millions of women in more than 25 states face an abortion ban if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized the procedure nationwide. For many of those women, employers’ benefit packages may be the only way they can soon afford a legal abortion.
Amazon became the latest corporation to cover employees’ travel costs to seek abortion care. The company told staff it would pay up to $4,000 in travel expenses annually for medical treatments including abortions, according to a message seen by Reuters. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the nature of the Reuters report to CNN Business.
The company’s announcement echoes similar moves by Citigroup, Yelp, Uber and Lyft to help employees bypass Republican-led efforts in several states to effectively ban abortion. And it comes just hours after a bombshell report by Politico indicated the Supreme Court is prepared to overturn Roe v. Wade.
CNN has not independently confirmed the Politico report, and a Supreme Court spokesperson declined to comment.
If Roe is overturned, legislatures in 26 states have pending laws indicating that they intend to ban abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights. That could leave many women in need of abortion services hundreds or thousands of miles away from access to the procedure — unaffordable for many.
Corporate America is increasingly being drawn from the political sidelines on the abortion issue in response to pressure from investors, customers and employees. Companies are also struggling to attract and retain talent and worry about the impact these states’ anti-abortion laws could have on their workers.

“...many women in need of abortion services...”
So, that’s like, none? Who is it who “needs” and doesn’t just want an abortion?
I’ve never trusted Uber and Lyft drivers, and never use them.
We occasionally use taxi cabs, but we call traditional local cab companies and the few independent people who do this - at least, we will as long as they last.
I have no need for either service, but if we want to fight for the culture, we have to think beyond our personal habits. It is worth fighting for good school boards, and to keep the shaky ones in line, even if you homeschool or are childless.
“If abortion is banned, we’re going to pay more and more for these idiot’s kids until civilization collapses and they eat what’s left...”
Well, alright then, let the murdering continue, money being the most important thing.
I’m not as hard-line as some people here who believe in no abortion for any reason.
I don’t believe a woman who is raped should have to carry that child; and I don’t believe that a woman whose health is endangered should have to go through it either.
What if your wife or daughter were raped? What if they developed a life-threatening problem as a result of pregnancy?
Sorry, but I don’t believe that any circumstance in life is absolutely subject to the same answer for everyone.
What I can’t stomach is the profligate murder of babies simply because people are irresponsible or don’t want the result of their own actions. And I don’t like it when they call it a ‘blob of cells’ instead of recognizing that it really is a human child.
I’m an old woman now, and I use cabs when my husband is away and I have something I have to do. I don’t want to be driven around by someone who does it part-time, perhaps in between other jobs, and is vetted as poorly as some of these drivers are.
I’ve known people who have driven for these services. Some of them I’d trust with my life; some, I’d never get into a car with.
A lot of people who drive drive a lot because they do it to go to work or buy food.
Uber will offer free rides to an executioner?
How nice of them
Well, I used to drive a lot, too.
But we were talking about taxi services. I have never trusted the ‘new’ things like Uber and Lyft - I just don’t believe that their drivers are carefully vetted enough. I prefer the traditional taxi companies, which we fortunately still have here.
Sounds like a baby killer taxi driver thing.
I have come to believe that where there are whores and whoremongers there will be Harpies.
I don’t think it takes a cynic to see that as a motive for a company’s support for liberal abortion laws. Don’t forget that having moms in the work force means the government has more ability to adopt policies that favor such families and penalize those who prefer a stay at home parent.
Money represents effort and capital in a civilization. The “murdering” will happen with or without abortion if the material issues are not addressed soon enough.
Either in the womb as a preventative measure by choice or in far greater numbers/brutality/randomness in the streets when civilization collapses from too many takers.
Another option is mandatory implanted birth control for those not able to afford children but many people see that as even worse than abortion.
Human sacrifice in many civilizations was merely a way to keep population from exceeding available resources. They said it was to satisfy God for a good harvest but in reality they just kept the numbers down so everyone else had enough to eat. The leadership knew even greater violence was inevitable if everyone starved.
Civilizations against sacrifice addressed feeding of excess people through war and colonizing. Conquering more land and brutally murdering the previous inhabitants when they objected to starvation. They justified murder by saying their culture is superior and deserved to eat more than these “savages”.
Every known path to address this issue is horrific but it is the brutal hard reality of material existence versus human nature...
You have a very materialistic mind.
Killing tomorrow’s customers today......
The culture has a lot of rot in it when millions of women feel that raising a child is a curse.
Would you support the execution of adult idiots? That would thin out the population a bit and murder is murder, of a baby or an adult.
Lyft and Uber are UberInsane... 🤓. Now, who will be paying for these free rides to a deathcamp? The customers who are Pro-life!! If you want to support businesses that is conservative - go to MammouthNation. Com.
Well, studies have shown that rapees are the likeliest, outside of religious believers, to desire abortion feeling that it is wrong to reply to a crime by killing a third party that did not commit the crime. Victims of rape are more often forced into abortion by boyfriends or family and the damage to their psyches is permanent. They are much more apt to regard the abortion as a second crime against themselves and their babies and as punishment for getting raped.
