The long wait for one of McDonald’s most sought-after condiments is almost over.
The fast-food behemoth confirmed Monday that its viral Szechuan dipping sauce will be available exclusively through the chain’s app for a few days beginning March 31.
The wildly popular sauce, which debuted in 1998 as part of a McDonald’s promotion for Disney’s “Mulan,” is described as a “savory and slightly sweet taste profile with hints of soy, garlic, ginger and mild vinegar,”
“It’s only returned three other times in the past 24 years, and we’re excited for fans to get another taste of the elusive favorite for just a few days,” McDonald’s said in a prepared statement.
The condiment enjoyed more than its 15 minutes of fame nearly 20 years after its debut, when adult-oriented animated series “Rick and Morty” featured the dipping sauce in a 2017 dream-sequence episode, USA Today reported.
In direct response to the popularity spike following the Cartoon Network exposure, McDonald’s brought Szechuan sauce back for a single day in 2017, and again the following year, People magazine reported.
According to USA Today, packages of Szechuan sauce purchased during the 2018 frenzy are currently available for purchase on eBay, and although prices vary, a single sauce that expired in 2017 listed Monday for $950.
Once the March 31 promotion goes live, fans will be able to select Szechuan sauce to accompany their Chicken McNuggets or purchase up to five containers a la carte through the McDonald’s app,

It’s not going to work.
Never heard of this sauce being served at McDonald’s.
But apparently it’s “popular”.
Or else this “News story” is really just an ad by a big corporation ...

Nothing more than flavored high fructose corn syrup.
Fructose is the part of sugar that causes NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) because it must be processed by the liver in a similar manner to alcohol.
The spiel that HFCS is no different from table sugar is not true.
Table sugar is 50% fructose and 50% glucose.
HFCS is supposedly 55% fructose. But product testing shows the fructose concentration in some products to be as high as 65%.
Fatty liver disease used to be confined to alcoholics. Now it has become an epidemic even among teetotalers.
It’s not because we’re eating more sugar, it’s because we’re eating more fructose. And the reason we’re eating more fructose is because we are eating more HFCS.
McDonald’s trying to curry favor with the PRC? In that case, shouldn’t they replace the Wade-Giles spelling “Szechuan” with the pinyin “Sichuan”?

Have the remade Mulan as a homosexual or a transgender yet?
they’re working on it.
McDonald’s really should work on reinventing their hamburgers.
It is incredible just how much they suck over the last several years.
I agree.
I occasionally make Szechuan dishes from various authentic recipes and there is nothing sweet about them.
No doubt because of that “Rick and Morty” episode......
