According to the article, this guy was very interested in tigers. They don't get into specifics, but I'm guessing he was very interested in seeing one from the inside.

I suspect he’s one of the Gaia nuts. When you eliminate Christianity from everyone’s life lots of people have such a huge spiritual void in their lives, they must find something to fill it with. They focus in on something new or they just make something up. I read where someone who’d tried to commit animal suicide said they were trying to “bond with nature” or some such idiocy. Below is a link to a story about someone who dove into the huge figure they burn at “Burning Man.” I’m willing to bet this guy was looking for some kind of spiritual “rebirth.” One of the features of Christianity is a focus for people who desperately need one. Take it away and they’ll find it some “nontraditional” way. The thing about Christianity, it’s tried, true and safe.
