"I simply cannot say I'm pro-police anymore ..."

@ezralevant

My whole life I was Back The Blue.

My whole life I was pro-cop. I was a master of giving them the benefit of the doubt, even for pretty obvious cases of police brutality.

I simply cannot say I'm pro-police anymore.

Not after watching these "just following orders" thugs.

400,000,000+ privately owned guns make for more firepower than all the armies in the world combined.

There is a big difference between a Good Cop who does his job properly and the "Bully With A Badge" that we all loathe.
Let's not pretend they are all the same. That's the Leftist's way.

Thing was that this bad check came from an event that happened on the county fair grounds and a little research showed dozens of other bounced checks at other events across the country.

True - police are losing the benefit of the doubt.

Dragging parents out of school board meetings during the 2 minute speech opportunities is another fine example.

Personally. I think the Ottawa police chief should get a friendly knock on his door from his neighbor. And then the question: what are you doing?

“Maybe I need to consider actually becoming a “pistol-packin’ mama” one of these days.”

See that is one thing nice about being in a Constitutional Carry state like Az. Just because everyone can and do if they like legally, the predators work on the assumption that everyone is packing. That makes those who choose not to carry just as safe as those who do. It is a huge positive deterrent. There is also a psychological difference in how officers approach the citizens. To them everyone is or could be carrying LEGALLY, so they less apt to automatically shoot you because you happened to move your arm too fast getting your ID. It is a world of difference and every state should have Constitutional carry just for the deterrent factor alone. :)

I have been in business all my life. So I have had to deal with a lot of checks like that. Always get their driver’s license number on the check. In almost every state having the number on the check gives them to automatically issue a warrant for felony criminal check fraud. So the next time they are stopped for anything at all anywhere in the country they go straight to jail until the debt is satisfied plus fines etc. No hassle no fuss, in most states this is set in stone. But only if you have the license number on the check. Anything else is legally a civil dispute and they have very little authority to do anything about it.

And you are correct

FWIW I’ve seen enough corruption in supposedly conservative rural police departments to know that 95% will do whatever is easiest and keeps the paychecks and “donations” from interested parties flowing

Remember obama wanted to federalilize the police?

Talk about scary. They would be unionized and wouldn’t give a damn about our rights. If you had thugs like obama, biden, Trudeau in charge, it would be horrible. May as well burn the constititution.

“No. I have read articles over the last two decades about psychological and other standards being lowered to allow a more diverse number of candidates to be accepted into police acadamies.”

I agree with you. And hire on IQ cap policies ... The IQ level is half what it used to be 20 years ago. This is intentional because they do not want anyone intelligent or moral enough to question the orders they are given, just to blindly follow orders without any intelligent or moral thought at all.

I’m acquainted with a constitutional sheriff. He tells of teaching a class to young officers and mentioned the Bill of Rights.

One cop in the class looked at another and whispered “What’s the Bill of Rights?”

Needless to say, the scope of the class changed drastically.

The police are not your friend. Not saying they are the enemy, as they can be useful at times. But they are never your friend.

Nope. As long as they are jackboots to lick, there will be jackboot lickers. they are drawn together like a moth to a flame. Th paraphrase Kipling: Like a dog to his vomit. Like a sow to her mire. The dry, bruised lips and dry sore tongue of the jackboot licker bows down and reaches out one more time for the jackboot to lick.

The Jackboot Licker Brigade is still here. Right now they are silent.

You just touched on a huge truth here. They have absolutely no education about the civilian Constitutional rights they are swore to uphold. And most that do know, think that they have the authority to exempt Constitutional rights whenever they like. They are “Special” and these safeguards do not apply to their superior authority.

It all depends on who the victims are.

Just wait till the next riots over a black guy killed by a white cop and suddenly everyone will be pro-cop again. Just like the "anti-cop anarchists" support every police action against people they don't like, no matter how atrocious it is.

“Police USED TO BE rightfully venerated.”

Police have always had a modicum of power by the very nature of their job. Power corrupts by its very nature. Police, then, have always been tempted to corruption, and a fair number succumbed to that temptation throughout history. Same with low-level politicians, bureaucrats, and even firemen (back when firemen belonged to private companies, and were allowed and even encouraged to pilfer valuables from burning buildings as part of their pay).

There were always policemen who were rightfully venerated. There still are. But the struggle between the good and the evil in men’s nature is inherent in their job. So “police” as a generic category can’t really be assumed to be anything. They’re charged with executing the laws that politicians make, judges interpret, and bureaucrats administer. They deal with the worst scum of society and that includes wife beaters, child molesters, and mobsters. The latter have money, and can bribe them. The mere sociopaths and idiots sometimes try to kill them and often curse them for their troubles, so bribery is very tempting in a thankless, dangerous job. For that matter, the bureaucrats, judges and politicians are often corrupt, too, and also make unreasonable and even crazy demands on the policemen.

Those policemen who can remain sane, honest and decent in spite of being caught in the middle of all this, deserve veneration. But there has never been a time when that veneration could simply be assumed. You’d have to act respectfully even to the bad cops to avoid a beating or worse. And even a bad cop in a bad system sometimes does good in the course of a day, even sometimes heroic acts.

And they remain necessary. If you actually have a well-regulated militia in place, that’s just another word for a policeman. If they’re going around summarily executing people based on mere surmise, looting and beating perps, or accepting bribes, they’re not well-regulated. Even if they do not, they’ll still have power and the usual authorities telling them what to do and how. Same job. Different name. Same problems.

45 years ago 'Joey' 'Dougie' was a childhood friend of mine.
Now Joey Dougie is a cop.
Which is frightening.

Because Joey Dougie was a total moron.
I am not making this up. (ditto)

It wasn’t right that we venerated them. That’s part of why police spent so many decades getting away with crap. Beating confessions out of people, taking bribes, deciding some cases just weren’t interesting (why do serial killers kill prostitutes? cause cops don’t care if whores die). Look up the stuff that was going on in that time frame when they were venerated and you’ll see it wasn’t earned. And really that job is too dangerous to society, we should never venerate it, that gives it even more power.

I lost all faith in police departments after Waco. There has been nothing but one example of cops violating the people’s rights just so they can keep their jobs or because they really are jackboots.

That said, we have seen good cops quit or refuse orders. Not all cops are bad, and many are good cops. Many Sheriff’s have sided with the people and still do.

We simply cannot assume a uniformed officer is going to follow the law.
