Tanuj Deora works in the energy industry - specifically to decarbonize energy systems. That's the technical term for efforts to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. It's a vast and complex problem, but Deora and his family try to do their part. At their home in Northwest Washington, they have solar panels, LED lightbulbs and a hybrid minivan. In the kitchen, though, the issue of fossil fuel usage was more personal. Their natural gas cooktop was making Deora sick.
"I would get a headache whenever the gas was running," he says, so he started looking into replacing their gas stove.
But first, he had to sell his wife, Amy, on the idea. The two of them love to cook and make meals from scratch most nights. Amy believed that gas cooking was superior in performance. When they remodeled their kitchen in 2021, though, she agreed to try an induction stove. Five months later, they have no regrets. "This cooktop isn't just adequate for cooking - it's better than the gas stove was," Deora says.

try toasting your tortilla or lighting yer cigar on an induction cook top!! fooey! spit!
Not to mention....many gas stoves can still be used when the power is out.
Control the power => cooktop => control the people.
But most people are not aware you can not can on an induction.
If you have a aluminum canner it will not work at all. If you have a steel canner it will work but you can only use a small canner. The big one will crack the glass top.
Dc does not use power factor since the voltages and currents are constant rather than alternating and there is no way to define a phase angle between them.
phase has nothing to do with it, I use phase for many things including interferometry.
I have run many 12 vdc systems at 400 amps, dont grab that jack.
Yep, that’s why I bought a gas range. It still functions with the power out, light it with a match.
I like gas! I like guns! I like motorcycles! I like red headed girls with green eyes...
Those glass ranges seem useless to me. I don’t understand the mania for them.
In ac systems phase has everything to do with how much power is delivered.
For sine waves the rms value of a voltage or current is root(2)/2 = 0.707 of the peak value of the voltage or current. For other wave shapes rms can be calculated from a formula (wait for it) that calculates the square root of the mean of the square of the voltage or current waveform.
Like electricity isn’t?
And can “our side” quut using the fake term fossil fuels?
The house we bought had an electric, I had to put up with it until we could get a gas put in.
I knew how to cook with electric because that is what you generally get in a rental but it was difficult after having had gas for so long.
And it felt fragile. Like my cast iron would damage it.
We do half our cooking in cast iron. I don’t want anything to do with that glass abomination.
dude, pick a damn stove! you can buy what you like!
yer smartphone run on AC?..
Tesla was brilliant (i think edison was a jerk) but they are different animals in the same cage
The point here is that the gov’t is about ready to take that choice away from me.
There’s a charger that takes the wall socket ac and turns it into dc. It must do that with high efficiency while protecting the user from electric shock. I should know. I’ve testified about that in Federal Court during a patent litigation.
Once inside the phone, the dc input is used to charge the battery through a battery charger. Then there’s a complicated power architecture inside the phone with multiple dc-to-dc converters to provide different voltages to parts of the phone. I’ve also testified about that in front of the International Trade Commission. In the process, I’ve had an iPhone torn apart on the lab bench and made measurements.
On this was agree...
Tesla was brilliant, but very quirky to the point of mental instability. He needed George Westinghouse to keep him on track.
Edison was a self aggrandizing jerk. His name is on a bunch of patents on which he did almost none of the work. His only real invention was the corporate research laboratory in which his minions did all the work and Edison took credit.
