I got a GE in 2007. Lights with a match if the power is out.
Love the thing.
Cookware heats up almost instantly, and cools quickly too when the "heat" is reduced.
I won't have gas in the house as I prefer to reduce the chance of the house and us being blown to smithereens.
We also have 2 portable induction "burners" we use when travelling, as well as 2 Biolites.
We had a real bad ice storm here about ten or so years ago. 4 inches over everything! Power out! But we were on natural gas and still kept warm.
Our camper trailer blew up with us inside in 1956. Burned mom, missed me. We were using wellhead gas with no odorant in it. You would think I hate Nat gas but I don’t.
During the Feb 14 1968 storm that shut down The Tulsa area my wife’s folks had total electricity and had to suffer for almost two weeks.
The house I bought years later was total electricity. I did everything I could to get the gas company to run a line to our house. Finally got it! First time our house was ever warm!
Electric ranges are too slow during temperature change.
I’ve got an induction stovetop. It heats up almost immediately and gets more than hot enough to burn anything I wanted to burn. I’ve yet to use it above setting 5 out of 10 because it will cook too fast.
Mine is a one burner portable top. We need to replace the electric stovetop we’ve got and MIGHT go to gas - but that will be very expensive since we’d need a tank installed and a gas line too. My wife was very skeptical but she’s now learning to saving $$$ and just go with an induction stove.
I’ve used natural gas and all kinds of electric stovetops. If I was building new I’d go with an induction electric. Natural gas, not there is anything wrong with that, would be my second choice.

I am starting to really like the induction !
I have a test DuxTop 1800 watt unit to test on.
Works great with my cast iron.
I put it in 10 to start the sizzle - then turn it down to he cooking rate.

The induction also beats out my old electric range.
It was a tie however with the electric kettle !

It’s got touch controls. I like a lot about it, but I’d go with a different model if I had to replace it.
Total BS, the worst purchase I’ve made with a new house was choosing an electric stove! Horrible. You cannot keep it clean, it isn’t hot enough to stir fry things, etc. Terrible purchase and I’m stuck with it.
I hate my electric stove.....it’s always a waiting game. Gas is there when you want it.

The thing that gets me is gas is cheap, very easy to control , and excellent for cooking. My grill is hooked up to natural gas as is our hot water heater,home heating system and cook top. So instead of trying to get rid of stoves etc why not make them more efficient ?
