LOL, 2 tickets for $47 is pretty cheap today.
Watching on a very snowy B&W TV from a station 225 miles away
I was two… likely sleeping
My Dad hated The Beatles when I was growing up. "Bunch of long-haired sissies with out-of-tune guitars" was basically his description of them. There was a real generational divide back then with regard to music. Today, you have grandmothers rocking out to Van Halen.
February 9 is also the day I was discharged from active duty from the Marine Corps back in 1985. I remember flying from San Diego to Boston that day with my whole life still ahead of me. I wish I could go back to 1985 knowing what I know now!
In 1st grade.
I was allowed to stay up to watch it - but didn’t understand what all the hoopla was about.
They looked like such strange creatures to me.
Today - die-hard Beatles fan forever!
First grade at a Baptist church in San Clemente praying against the debils music.
Working like hell to complete my engineering decree, graduate and get married
I watched second half of show - we switched over after Disney was over.
I hated them at first. I was just starting to have some success talking up junior hi girls. Suddenly, I couldn’t even make eye contact with those girls with their heads stuck in a fan magazine (”Oh, his eyes are so dreamy.” “I’m gonna marry Paul.”)
Then in late November, I heard a piece of a new song that I really liked on the school bus - in between the chatter. When the song finished, the DJ said, “That’s the new single by the Beatles, I Feel Fine.” A blind taste test won me over. Been on an upward trajectory from that moment. Beatles Forever, Baby!
Incidentally, my favorite song by the Beatles is The Girl I Love (1966)
I remember it being exciting and different at the time, too.
But I lost interest in them.
In front of the Dumont B&W with four siblings in the living room in Northern NJ. I was in second grade, that whole Sunday was anticipating the Ed Sullivan Show.
Twins?
I too was in 3rd grade but I missed that Ed Sullivan Show. I had seen the Beatles previously from video clips I saw on the Jack Paar show (showing the Beatles performing in England). They made an impression on me. I liked them till they went from cool to kooky.
They grew all that long Hippie Hair.
Give Me a Kiss--The Hornets (1964)
My family was at my uncle’s house with his family, eight of us total. I was youngest, of the kids, at 11, Cousin Ken was the oldest at 14. It was a one-hour drive to get home after the show, we had stayed longer so that we could watch it.
Totally oblivious to it ... didn’t have a TV.
Waiting for Topo Gigio to kiss Ed good night. Wasn’t into music yet.
Twins?
