I’ve never done a vanity of this nature before and few vanities period in 22 years here ..maybe 3-4 She was a greater NYC resident who I think with her husband moved to the Deep South maybe Alabama in older age a few years ago She was erudite and smart I liked her a lot and both of us having been Manhattan dwellers when younger appreciated one another defending the finer aspects I believe she’d worked in theatre or the arts She was a true lady here It dawned on me she stopped posting early 2020 with no heads up which is often not good without some foretelling Does anyone know anything Thank y’all
Admin please place where you desire I tried to keep it off main channels
I do not recall if she said where she was going. I, like others, highly respected her.
Yes some of us have to defend the big apple
I loved living there from age 24-30
Before wokeness and more importantly hipsters
When Brooklyn was still Brooklyn and Manhattan above east 96th and west 125th was injun country
And Koch would always ask How my Doing?
My social life beyond girls who always thought I was from Texas (Mississippi) was the China Club upper broadway
Speaking of Mississippi we had Mississippi day in Central Park west of the Met north of the sheeps mall and we’d plant state and confederate flags and bb king would play and we’d have southern food and Harlem would come down from 110th to eat and hear music
And nobody whined about bit
Southern celebs and politics and pundits
Hodding carter junior and pat Derien who I knew well
Elizabeth Ashley I loved her
Tom Wicker columnist
Barry Hannah writer
The owners of the lone star cafe
Lots of Mississippi gays New York being a Mecca for them of course including that big black gay designer from Vicksburg
Tom Wolfe and his darling wife and young children
Mose Allison and his beautiful wife
Cindy Hughes a fashionista entrepreneur I grew up with beautiful blonde and southern
It was eccentric and fun and everyone happy no friction
Usually 500 to 1000 southern transplants and locals for the food
Man those days are gone even on this forum where that version of Dixie is loathed by freeper woke
I believe she’d worked in theatre
I don’t mean to intrude but, as long as you’re asking, in addition to miss marmelstein, what happened to onyx? Two delightful posters.
FrankR also has been missing. He posted many great ‘memes’ and images!
Good reminder...
I had completely forgotten about her...
“Hopefully just too jaded by increasing nonsense on FR.”
Stomping off in a husky fit in other words.
I liked her and her breadth.
But also I could see her going all Peggy Noonan.
There was another poster from NYC who posted a lot. Very loquacious. From Staten Island.
He seems to have disappeared too. User name was maybe dp something.
and another one ..... nopardons.
I think eddie willers is in Metro Atlanta.
I know her quite
After her wonderful MD husband passed she left Mississippi his home in Vicksburg they’d left Kali for and I think moved near her daughter who lives in the Caribbean
And list her zeal for FR
She had some sway here she protected me at times when Howlin wanted my head on a pike help which eventually became futile for me and Matt bracken who knew her too
Many don’t know this but she was gorgeous as a young woman and was something of a celeb for it and courted by famous suitors that’s all I’m saying lol
Man id been smitten if I’d known her
She’s still adorable in my view last pic I saw
I’m very fond of her shes a proper devout Catholic lady and grandma
I hope shes well
Thanks for thinking of her
I didn’t even realized MM hasn’t been around. I used to talk to her quite often. I’d worked in NYC and we shared stories about The Big Apple. Hope she’s ok.
And I’d like to know what happened to Mrs. Don W. Haven’t seen any posts from her for about 2 years, and she was very active, especially regarding Catholic issues.
I’m wondering about Miss Didi too. I also miss Nita_Nupress, not to mention the countless Freepers who’ve left this earth recently. I’m a retread from 1998, so I have many fond memories of the Olden Days around here, lol.
Some folks don’t know about this page—found at the bottom of the FR site’s homepage:
FreeRepublic Memorial Wall
https://freerepublic.com/memorial/memorial.htm
Started in 1998
I confirmed with another Freeper who knows her personally that your assessment is correct. She has moved to the Deep South and is doing just fine. I also miss seeing her posts here.
She was awesome, one of the best ever. Sorry she is gone (apparently).
dp0622. I had forgotten his name, but found it by searching “Staten Island” and “freerepublic.com.” 🙂
I remember he had a job where he worked the night shift, and used to regale us (perhaps exaggerating just a bit) about the history of the mafia in NYC.
I know he used to lament his weight frequently. I hope he is well.
She had an extra credit in , if I recall, Kramer vs Kramer. In a response of mine to someone I mis attributed the film as, again, if I recall “Tootsie”. In any event she corrected me and gave me the specific location in the movie that she appeared. There weren’t many exchanges between us so anyone curious about the lovely MissMarmelstein could search it and see for themselves.
If I remember correctly Don0 and Mrs. DonO used to post here quite often. I think DonO left during the purge of 2018 and now posts at The Briefing Room.
I can vouch for her as well. She’s doing fine but just a lurker these days. We stay in contact outside the forum.
