Legendary rock singer Meat Loaf has died, according to an announcement posted on his official Facebook page. He was 74.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side,” the post said. “Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours.”
Born Marvin Lee Aday in Dallas, Texas in 1947, Meat Loaf began acting and singing in school productions. He moved to Los Angeles after his mother’s death in 1965.

My dad had a deep affection for the Paradise by the Dashboard Light album, which was always interesting to me since his normal favorites were things like Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and The Stattler Brothers. Mom could barely make it halfway through the any of the four sections of the 8-track before asking him to change it, and most of the family agreed, but Dad would still listen to it by himself a lot, when he could.
I have always liked “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad,” very much. A beautiful song. R.I.P.
Meatloaf had a unique talent. His best songs were incredibly memorable.
That’s too bad. Very talented. RIP.
He was a great singer and a larger-than-life character.
That was pretty clever.
His actual name was Michael Lee Aday and he was a rather down to earth guy despite his fame and fortune. He lived here in Connecticut for decades and coached the girls softball teams at the high schools his daughters went to (but never his daughters directly).
Meat Loaf was a deep thinker, a hard-working craftsman, and a serious student of the art of acting. He looked at his musical performances as acting, with each song sung by a different character. He was one of a kind.
His unforgettable style was perfectly complemented by the amazing songs written by his friend Jim Steinman, one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
R.I.P., Meat. We will never forget you. Thanks for the spectacular performances.

So many great memories listening to his stuff. 😢He got much healthier as he got older and seemed to have taken much better care of himself than he did at peak of his success
I agree. Even so, I forget how many times Meatloaf and Jim Steinmen had a falling out. I think they twice sued each other.
May he rest in God’s heavenly peace.
