The movie industry was given exceptions about wearing mask, and it’s a shame that they’re starting to film with smoking again.
I won’t watch any movie or TV show where the actors/actresses are wearing masks onscreen. That’s just plain stupid.
I haven’t noticed a change in the amount of smoking. But it does get you a PG warning.
Yeah, I just saw an article about a safe homosexual cruise.
In what world?
I like to watch documentaries; amateur is fine. Lately there are more with masked people and unless it’s temporary and brief I stop watching. I simply cannot follow the dialogue or action like this. I get entirely lost.
It’s better to listen to a podcast than try to watch masked people interact or lecture.
For example, a documentary on serial killers warned: "Violence. Language. Gore. Smoking"
Smoking on par with blood and gore????
I watch a fair amount of Netflix etc., and I haven’t noticed the smoking spike that you mention. Not sure what’s going on there. Are you watching a lot of movies set in France or the Balkans? LOL.
As for mask-wearing in TV & movies. You know, I can understand why makers of visual entertainment would set their stories in a non-pandemic universe. At some point soon the mask thing will presumably be over, and you’re really “dating” your movie/tv show to 2020-22 by having characters mask up. Also, movies/tv shows are escapist entertainment. The audience doesn’t need or want to be reminded of masking. They want an escape. Unless covid is a plot point in the story, I’m glad they’re not masking.
I don't think I've seen a recent movie with more smoking than "Argo." It's set in 1979 and 1980, and so many of the scenes in OFFICES have smokers and ashtrays all over the place.
“I have NEVER in my life seen THIS country so completely upside down when it comes to logic, reason and morality in general. Ever. “
Yep. Lack of any ability to do critical thinking and have any common sense comes down to failed and very woke public education.
"Why", I asked my parents, "would he wade into the middle of the river just to have water poured over his head? Couldn't they do that on a lakeshore or anywhere else?" Mom explained that they didn't want to offend the Christian sects that didn't believe in baptism by immersion. Less ticker sales.
Fear not!
The omniscient CDC is on the job:

“I have NEVER in my life seen THIS country so completely upside down when it comes to logic, reason and morality in general. Ever.”
You’re right.
The reason is they watch crap the media puts out.
Stop watching it.
I can’t recall where, or from whom, I heard/read that smoking is a natural Covid-virus deterrent in that the tar it deposits on the lung surface impedes the virus cells from adhering to it.
If you avoid patronizing hollyweird you won’t have to wonder about these things 🤪
One of my favorite old Jimmy Hatlo THEY’LL DO IT EVERY TIME comic strips showed a fireman taken from a burning building, on a stretcher due to smoke inhalation.
The next panel shows the fireman waking up and yelling...”Someone give me a smoke!”
Another was a movie(BACKDRAFT [1991]) about fire men in which after they all put out a fire they walk around in the smoking ruin, all with cigarettes in their mouths.
In the old movies they constantly lit up, but that was the way it was back in the1920s-1960s.
Showing masks in a movie or TV show would date the show as being from "the COVID Era". If they want people to watch the movie or show "after COVID"*, they need to leave off the masks.
*If there is is an "after COVID" era.
On a couple of movies where I watched directors comments a couple of them have said they added smoking scenes to poke the smoking nazis and dogooders in the eye. Sort of a “I know smoking is bad but I don’t give a crap what you think, mind your own business” attitude.
bump
I want to see The Godfather on the big screen this feb but a mask is out. To hell with them and their movie
Wait'll the remake of the War of the Worlds.
So help me, I saw BOTH the other day. Masks AND smoking. At the same time!
I saw a guy walking down the sidewalk, alone, while wearing a mask, which is a separate form of madness. But the guy was also smoking a cigarette WITHOUT TAKING OFF THE MASK!
The guy’s mask had a brown smear across the front, looking exactly like a shit stain would, and that’s where he held the cigarette while he was walking. I didn’t get a picture of this donkey because I was driving at the time. I should have circled back.
