This [sugar] is the ‘worst food ingredient for your immune system’—especially during Covid, says immunologist

A question that puzzled people at the beginning of the pandemic was: Why does diabetes make it harder to fight a respiratory virus?

SARS-CoV-2 virus can make blood sugar control worse in the short term and can potentially throw people with diabetes into a very dangerous blood sugar state, studies show. It does this by binding itself to the receptors found on the beta cells of the pancreas, which produce insulin.

[H]aving diabetes means you’re in a chronic low-grade inflammatory state, which taxes the body’s innate immune system and makes it slower to jump on pathogens when they enter the body.

When you have high blood sugar — which is caused by many factors, but the biggest is consuming too much of it in your diet — it starts a vicious cycle of insulin resistance and obesity that drives up inflammatory cytokines, damages blood vessels, and activates the immune system to repair those areas.

This creates a major distraction for the immune system and paves the way for dangerous bacteria and viruses to slip through our body’s defenses.

Sugar is the devil

- - - - - - -

Americans were a lot healthier and thin before they started consuming corn oil, soybean oil, and canada oil. That caused them to have more omega 6 fats in their bodies than at any other point in history.

If the body increases sugar use when it fights the virus, it probably does so because it’s helpful.

They add sugar to everything. It’s almost impossible to find a food without added sugar. It’s frustrating.

I like sugar and I’m frustrated that they add artificial sweeteners to so many things.

I said goodbye to SUGAR and related items many, many years ago, such as cakes, cookies, ice cream etc. including soft drinks and so far, it has paid off very well. For a little bit of sweetness, I used XYLITOL (which chemically is an alcohol in the past and after it became available, I been using Stevia in liquid form which is very economical.

A 24 hour fast will completely reset the blood sugar level for almost all reasonably healthy people.

I am a little bit skeptical that Covid spike proteins are specifically hunting down insulin producing cells in your pancreas.

Sounds a little too convenient for the panic narrative.

Note that groups at higher risk for the wuhan coronavirus have more stored iron. The body stores iron and excess iron in the liver, heart, and pancreas. If the insulin producing cells are damaged, consuming sugar helps to regenerate them.

Sugar is believed by many to be the worst thing for your overall body, not just your immune system. Some even extend that to all carbs, which convert to sugar in the body.

“Men who consume chocolate or meat consume more iron than they need. If they don’t remove blood or donate blood every two years, I think they likely have excess iron”\

In those years I spoke of I regularly gave/donated blood, just about every three months. Being type O I am a “universal” donor and the woman in charge of getting donated blood for a hospital I was familiar with used to call me all the time, asking when I could go donate some more blood. We used to tease each other. She’d say “I really like your blood” and I’d say “you’re just a vampire, admit it”. And we’d both laugh.

“My own personal take is that obesity itself leads to diabetes regardless of sugar consumption”

Nearly type 2 diabetic I have seen is overweight/obese. I know one guy who got type 2 in his late 50’s and was normal weight but he is the only one I can recall.

I was prediabetic and lost 60 lbs and my blood sugar went to 100. MY Ac1?? went from 7.25 to 5

I went on the prism diet about 24 years ago and lost 55 lbs. One of its main attributes is teaching you to “know” the food you are eating. It caused me to look, at the grocery store, at the candy and donut sections the same way I’ve always looked at the cigarette section.

And I consider it MORE deadly than cigarettes.

Not fear porn. Covid went through diabetics like a blow torch through butter.

Actually it centers around carb intake. The less carbs you intake, the lower sugar generation of sugars to burn off.

My daughter found a gallon of milk recently that had an exp. date of 2023. Didn’t say if she looked at any of the others. Most likely a misprint, right?

If it’s not a misprint, maybe it was heated strongly and that destroyed a lot of components.

Coca cola can have a distant expiration date because they add phosphoric acid. I wonder if they added it or somerhing like that to that milk.

Just finishing one of two books on this by a kidney doctor out of Toronto. He breaks a lot of myths on dieting and calories and gives biological details on sugar vs. insulin.

Dr. Jason Fung:
'The Obesity Code' on Amazon
'The Diabetes Code'
