Tech PING! Thinking I need a camera security system. Has anyone looked at them? Thoughts? I want a stand alone camera system with night vision and recording capacity. Something that would work with my wifi? Something that works in the dark? (we live in the woods)
Is there such a duck?
We received a Ring for christmas and love it. The storage service is $2.50/ month. Stand alone. Get alerts on my phone.
I have eufy cam’s and love them. I will send you a referral code if you want. lol
bkmk
Ubiquiti works very well and you don’t need a monthly fee.
Might be too high end for your usage.
You will need a firewall, a POE switch and CAT5 wiring.
A wifi based solution is really NOT secure.

We have some Blink Cameras as. They go on sale several times a year. They do not need a cable to them and the batteries last a long time. But they now need a paid subscription if you were not grandfathered in previously. You also need an add on device if you want the video recorded locally, which is why we do not prefer them.

See Comments for suggestions on what is available and costs.
Some upload to the cloud, while others retain data on a DVR.
Some are on a subscription service, while others are 'stand alone' and self-contained.
thank you
No.
Whatever you do, watch out for any phone aps. Read the EULA and privacy policy. Every word.
The reason so many systems are cheap is the phone aps and some wifi systems are full of spyware. You must give them permission to analyze your network anytime, and access your cameras, to use the equipment. They “phone home” with your info.
Especially avoid anything chinese owned. It will absolutely, 100%, spy on you.
Samsung is a great brand, but again, read the EULA!
If you simply need a camera system for outdoor use...you can find tons of them on eBay. I have one with four cameras but have not installed it in my new house. No need really.
My 4 cam system was easy to set up and was about $400 bucks...with a 1Tb drive for storage, recording and replay. It actually came in handy one day when the local PD knocked on my door and said, "Hey, we noticed you have external cameras. Would you happen to have a recording from [such and such a time for such and such a day?]"
From your link:
“Smart notifications with email/ snapshot alerts will be pushed to your smartphone via iPhone/ Android App when motion is detected. you will get extra peace of mind by receiving instant alerts and get notified of what’s happening.”
And freely spy on you.
Thanks TIK!
I think this thread will have wide interest.
I like SimpliSafe.
SimpliSafe is a good choice.
following....
SimpliSafe doesn’t do that!
Honest!
Sometime this year, I want to get a Home Assistant system set up.
Remote access without using SAAS; https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/configuration/remote/
I want it for two things.
1) high tunnel(unheated greenhouse) automation to open and close the vents and control the drip irrigation.
2) a few security cameras, maybe with remote access.
I don’t need remote access for the high tunnel as that’s a matter of automation and it should just take care of itself if all components are working. If something breaks and the vents don’t open, it would be nice to get a notification when the temperature gets too high so I can manually open them.
Remote for cameras? I suppose if I can yell at someone who’s trying to break in. I’m rural and we don’t really have break ins out here. Everyone’s got dogs and guns.
One way notifications for temp/moisture ought to be able to be made pretty secure.
I use a 4 camera system I bought at Costco. The company is called NightOwl. Plan to expand to include 4 additional cameras.
