“...In no way is simply tuna a complete food for cats....”

ooooooo-wwwwwww-oooooo
I’m pretty sure they would rather have tuna than nothing...
until springtime, when they can have lizards, chipmunks, moles, and frogs...
Locally, dry, non-crap, cat food is very spotty to find.
Also, like most everything, it has suffered both shrinkflation, AND price increases. Purina Indoor has shrunk from `16 pounds to 15 pounds; and the price/bag is up $2+.
Premium brands have jumped a lot in price, as well; and are easier to find.
I was just talking to my checker at the grocery store about this tonight. She mentioned there wasn’t a lot of pet food, then mentioned the lack of cat food. I did notice this the last 4-5 months when I shopped cat food because my dementia dog and his cancerous sister loved cat food and who am I to deprive them their last culinary wishes! I also had problems finding the Pro Plan Bright Mind for dementia puppy.
No Heavy Whipping Cream at Walmart??? NOOOOOOOO, I use to stock up it because it was so cheap.
Absolutely. When we see the carton of 40 cans Purina pate cat food we buy it. The shreds and chunks may be available but it must be horrible because even when hungry my big eaters walk away from it. I even tried to puree the stuff, awful mess and smell, only two of the 7 will touch it.
20 lb bags of Purina complete cat chow can be hard to find.
I tried chewy but they were back ordered after my first round.
Worse than bothersome. I may resort to killing a deer for the gang but I would hate to do that.
Hills dog food online has some categories often not available.
Have you tried Petco or PetSmart for food?
We only have one cat now who will eat wet food, and we buy the Fancy Feast kind.
Otherwise, our cats get a mix of Beyond and Purina dry foods.
Our cats have always lived long lives without sickness; and when I was a kid, we got a cat who wound up living 20 years on 9 Lives tuna cat food, and the occasional giblets (and locust, mouse, etc.)
(And the wild sparrows I’ve reared have lived many years past their allotted time, on Purina cat chow softened in water. A vet told me once that it was too ‘high test’ for the birds, but I don’t mess with what works.)
There is a can shortage partially due to supply chain problems and the pandemic. Its both aluminum and steel cans
I noticed wet cat food is bare in the stores. But, I use Chewy and stocked up with food snd litter a couple months ago. Really happy with them.
I had yo search around for Hill’s Prescription food for my dog before Christmas. I then searched and read about dog food shortages. Now I keep a 3-4 month supply of food on hand.
I’m now reading about Presciption drug shortages. I’m worried about that.
I always heard that tuna had a lot of taurine.
Ohh that’s right. Thx
Growing up we fed what was cheap and available. Mom saved table scraps and cooked them up in a big pot for a broth / slop. The dogs loved it, cats no way.
All the ones that survived the highway lived long happy lives.
They also got fed only once a day. My cats eat at least twice a day canned at 0700 and 1700 hrs plus access to dry all day and night plus fresh water twice a day plus treats at least once a day and all have heated beds in the climate controlled shop PLUS heated mats in their big barn perches.
I get tractors that have no chewing mice problems and work observers and no snakes around the farmstead. They could do a better job at killing gophers.

“Kroger tuna fish is cheaper than cat-food.”
a tunafish-only diet would kill a cat: not enough fat or calcium or taurine ...
You are correct. I just hit a few sources and found that the plywood industry has changed a lot more than I thought.
When I retired, it was as I said. 25 years seems to make a difference. Every day I am happier that I am out of it.
However I do see that Canada is still a major factor in wood framing.
Not around here within a hundred miles. TSC they will just let spoil. It must be terrible.
I have one that won’t eat unless I mash Purina for him with gravy. Homer, big Red Siamese with a perfect pitch high C meow.
I think IAMS quality went down when the price went up so I went to Purina dry and they really like it.
I am retired from Georgia-Pacific.
There are hundreds of sawmills in the USA.
I haven’t been able to find Fancy Feast in a while.
