Finished in the last week or so: my big ol' black cardigan. I rarely do bulky knits. I prefer sock weight yarn and small needles. But this was a different need. I had a big, black sweater I used when I was *cold* and it gradually just wore thin. I looked for a new one for a couple years and nothing seemed right. I finally decided to just make one. In acrylic? Well it was lockdown and it was all I could find, and it was warm and soft. I can't believe I spent hours and hours hand knitting an acrylic sweater! The times we live in. The pattern was free from Lyon Yarn but I won't recommend it. Things kept not working or matching and I'd have to change it as I went. You get what you pay for :)

Yes, it is. Come to find out it is/was somewhat of a status symbol, mainly in the New England area, amongst the students, academics, etc.

Some wear it casually/sloppily/with patches on the elbows...signifying 'old money', and yes, some fake that too...

I was reading a coach's story about how he was excited to be interviewed for a (football) coaching job, and he 'dressed up' for the interview 'by putting on my Harris tweed'...

There's some good history there, and I feel it every time I wear it.

I hope your sweater is the ‘warm’ you need!

If you’re interested in maybe another sweater, here’s the free pattern for Claire’s Blue Cardigan .... it was a popular item from the last season. She said you can knit it up a size for something less fitted. The stitch pattern is attractive. She used 100% wool Aran - the link she gave has lots of colors.

The white one, that doesn't have a name stamped on the inside of the leg,

Ok, who else got this far before realizing these were not real horses?

I must need more coffee. You had me really confused :p

On local news this morning there was a story about a woman who makes art using dryer lint. She hurt her right hand so she can’t do normal art, plus I think she’s allergic to paint or something.

Sounds weird, but some of her stuff is really good. One piece is “Starry Night”, and it was beautiful.

I've always wanted to do a set of four 'Seasons' wall hangings in crochet. Still kicking it around in my head. I have lots of ideas, but nothing down on paper yet. Thanks for the inspiration!

Maybe both of us will be inspired this Winter? You never know where or when inspiration will strike!

Certainly not THIS detailed, but something along these lines:

All 4 of those are nicely done. The first one showing blue lillies of the field would be my favorite, as it looks the most natural. I like that all the pieces are displays in 3 dimensions, a High Relief effect, vs the basic flat tapestry or
linear designs one usually sees.

I think they're pretty, too!

My idea is to have each piece hang from a sturdy branch that I've found on our property, have Beau sand it down and finish it nicely for me and I'll crochet around it.

Then in each 'season' I would also incorporate something 'natural' into the piece, as well; something I could replace when it gets too faded.

I need to finish the last section of the current afghan I'm working on (Blue Ribbon #3?) and I will post some pictures so you can see what my color 'style' is. I like 'natural' stuff the best.

My other idea is an afghan using all of the colors found in photos of planet Jupiter. I should probably do ALL of the planets - maybe not in afghans, but in scarves. ;)

Ideas? I've got a MILLION of them. Execution? Not always my strong suit, LOL! Just LOOK at this color pallet! You can't go wrong with things that were designed by God. ;)

Since we haven't chatted before, I'll also recommend the book 'Knit The Sky' by Lea Redmond. FULL of inspiration and ideas. Just a lovely, LOVELY book. :)

That sweater looks nice and cozy - it was 31 degrees here this morning! I’ve been hauling out my winter clothes this week.

That is MY kind of sweater. Leggings, t-shirt, sweater, boots. I’m good to go, LOL!

Great idea using the ‘earth’ hues found in the solar system.
Thanks for the book tip.

I don't know if a person can still find it but my Mom did a lot with tobacco twine. She grew up in rural North Carolina and tobacco twine was plentiful. It's just a strong cotton twine used to tie the harvested tobacco, in bundles, to sticks that would then hang in the drying barns. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RE-_mHLQ2pw

When she was in high school (1930) she started crocheting a bedspread with the twine as that was all she had. It's a beautiful piece which I now have. A museum wanted to buy it from her but she declined.

Those are so cute!

So, going off with a knitting friend and I need to take a knitting project. I am a little beyond beginner, but, sigh, feel completely uninspired to knit (or even crochet) at the moment.

Any suggestions?

(I’m calling in the expert!)

My choices for a portable project would be:

Crocheted Dishcloths (all cotton) or Washcloths for the bath (cotton blend)

A scarf using a ‘Fibonacci’ design pattern:

Tobacco twine! First time I’ve heard about it. It sounds quite durable. Thanks.
