Actually it’s not and I for one am not going to convict that asshole without all the facts just because I don’t like his politics.
You're right - that's a pretty simplistic take.
But is the actor Baldwin also responsible for verifying a live round isn’t in the chamber in addition to memorizing his lines and acting? If so, then what’s the purpose of a movie “crew?" Why not just let the actors do everything on the set?
Coincidentally, my family member was shooting a western movie near there and said it’s the norm to show the other actors the weapon is definitely unloaded prior to filming the scene out of safety and as a professional courtesy.
He’s handled guns before in his movies - Red October comes to mind and there have probably been others.
No it isn’t. Are you the lawyer for the gun wrangler?
And I always believed it was Standard Practice to CHECK a GUN when someone hands it to you
There is a near zero chance of this loathsome old fool being convicted of anything related to this incident.
His financial and professional ruination is pretty much assured though...IMO
How many posts about this turkey do we have to have?
I don’t care who hands me a gun. They can tell me it’s unloaded all they want, but I’m going to assume it’s loaded until I personally verify otherwise. If Baldwin didn’t ensure the gun was unloaded before pointing it at someone and pulling the trigger, he was negligent.
I watched a prop directors discuss this on RT TV yesterday
He said there is no clear cut rule with armorers when handing the gun to an actor.
On some sets if the armorer hands it to the actor and if they say it is safe/cold then the actor can fire it and they do not require the actor to check it as it as their word is considered as good as gold it is safe to fire.
When you see a 18 year old girl firing a gun in the movie does she even know how to check it?
Also some armorers get offended if someone or an actor wants to checks their work.
Other armorers are more stringent and require the actor to physically check it.
After this I’m sure all will require the actor to do a final check.
Alec Baldwin is a killer.
As a hospital nurse my job is to administer meds prescribed by the physicians but not before I confirm it’s for the right patient, the right medication, the right dose, etc because I am the last line of defense to prevent harm to my patients. Alec Baldwin was, imho, the last line of defense to prevent harm to those on his set.
He failed miserably and someone died by his own hand.
It’s a fubar cluster wrapped in an enigma.
He was only acting.
Think about it. He was handed a prop, told it was safe and was directed to fire it at the camera.
It's not different than if he was handed a knife, told it was a dummy with a retracting knife when it was, in fact real, and then stabbed another actor by accident.
Gun safety - yes it’s really this simple
1. Every Gun is loaded until you personally check to make sure it’s not loaded. Guilty until proven innocent.
2. Never point a gun at anything you are not prepared to kill.
3. Keep your fingers away from the trigger mechanism until you are ready to fire.
4. Pay attention to what’s behind your target (bullets can and do penetrate primary targets and hit secondary targets)
Alec Baldwin broke every one of those safety rules. That directly resulted in a woman’s death. He is responsible.
Alec Baldwin pointed the gun and pulled the trigger. Everything else is excuses and window dressing.
Lazy people at every step didn’t REMOVE every round from the Single Action Army pistol ( a PIA ) to verify that they were all dummies or blanks or whatever flash-bang specials they have these days.
Lazy.
It’s not like the loaded gun was handed over to chimp to see what would happen... but it might as well had been.
