Also in the news conference, Santa Fe law enforcement identified the gun used as a Pietta long colt 45 caliber revolver such as this:

In other words, it was not a cap and ball revolver that some here have tried to claim. It was a real antique replica revolver loaded with live ammunition. It was handled by at least three people, including Baldwin, before the fatal shooting.

Golly! Interesting development! They have determined that the gun actually fired a bullet!!!! Good thing no one was hurt ...

Does that mean it was a ‘real’ bullet and not a blank?

I saw that press conference. The Sheriff made a few contradictory statements. He first said there were more rounds in the gun, later said there was only one round. He said it was a bullet, then he said it was a “suspected bullet pending ballistics”.

i>Filmmakers showed "complacency" toward safety, authorities said on Wednesday - Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza and District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told a news conference.

Complacency is not a fighting word. They are rolling over already.

Apologies for my ignorance but is it common practice to use a gun that can fire live rounds in movie making?

I thought using a gun that COULDN’T fire live rounds would be the obvious choice for this very reason.

Most old cap and ball pistols were converted to cartridges. This annoys gun collectors. Too bad for them. Someone would be a fool to keep using cap and ball once cartridges became available.

I don’t hear much about the woman that was murdered and realize that’s what these stories are about. But has anyone seen anything about what her families intentions are?

Baldwin was drawing a revolver across his body and pointing it at a camera while rehearsing when the weapon fired, according to court documents.

SHOULD BE: Baldwin was drawing a revolver across his body and pointing it at the victim while rehearsing when he fired the weapon, according to court documents.

Fixed it.

Alec Baldwin was an innocent bystander.
He was just standing there pulling the trigger while aiming at a woman, when the gun shot the woman.

What about the other 2 guns on the cart, did they have any live ammo in them, or just that one gun. Also the AD picked up a gun off that cart for Baldwin, again was that random or did Baldwin have a specific gun he was using in the film. Still lots of questions and they will have be answered.

I want to see the report that will filed by the insurance investigators, lets see what they come up with.

By the way the protocol on using guns on the set involve the prop person having total and complete control of the weapons at all time, never out of their sight. When they go on the set the guns are checked and checked again with the actor using them with the prop person, when the scene is finished the guns are taken back into custody by the prop person and locked up. Now of this is SOP, then this AD and Prop Person have a lot to answer for also. Liability will not be totally with Baldwin, if any.

The fact it was a lead projectile takes off the table the possibility it was a pebble or gravel that might have found its was into the barrel to cause the fatality.

The armorer is denying responsibility. The only way I can see she would even have a chance of that would be if due to covid restrictions she was kept away from the set, and was directed to safe the firearms and leave them outside where they were shooting the scene. They may have been there for hours. Rather than guard them, she would have gone off, leaving the guns unattended.

Then they may have been tampered with (deliberately,) or misused (inadvertently creating a dangerous situation). I can't see what other defense she could come up with.

I believe she was the one who took the fired shell out of the gun immediately after the incident, so she may have thought that she had previously checked it, and wondered how it got there.

Next, the sheriff claims: "Mendoza said 500 rounds were located on set, which were a mix of blank ammunition, dummy rounds and, possibly, live rounds."

That description is important. They knew there were dummy rounds on the set - but they will not now say that there were live rounds - only "possibly" live rounds.

Which means even they couldn't be sure whether the rounds there were live or dummy rounds. Secondly, they are not saying for sure that live rounds were seized, even though earlier reports have insisted many live rounds were seized.

Only reason the cap and ball was discussed was because the UK Guardian ran a picture of what they claimed was the revolver. The one in the picture was a cap and ball.

Gate-loaded gun, I'd imagine the procedure for preparing that gun with blanks would be to assure each chamber is empty, (half cock and turn the cylinder so you can see daylight through each chamber in turn.)

Next, have a clear loading table in front of you with only six rounds, carefully inspected to be blanks, and load each in turn through the gate. The loader may or may not leave an empty chamber under the hammer.

For loading dummy rounds, inspect each chamber, and then load each with dummy rounds. Point the gun at the ground, (and if you are Dr Fauci at a small dog,) then full cock and drop the hammer on each chamber.

There may be different procedures if the cylinder is pulled to load.
