The smoking gun that claimed the life of Halyna Hutchins might've been more than just an on-set prop -- it was also being fired recreationally, even when cameras weren't rolling.
Multiple sources directly connected to the 'Rust' production tell TMZ ... the same gun Alec Baldwin accidentally fired -- hitting the DP and director -- was being used by crews members off set as well, for what we're told amounted to target practice.
We're told this off-the-clock shooting -- which was allegedly happening away from the movie lot -- was being done with real bullets

Baldwin blasted the cinematographer with a real bullet. Not a blank. The slug went through her chest and hit the director who was standing behind her.
The actor with the gun in hand is 100% ultimately responsible for the gun in his hand.
I see no room to pass off any blame at all to anyone other than Jerkwad Alec.
Never the less I’m sure lawyers will make it so for this member of the elite class.
It was a rehearsal too. Why did Baldwin pull the trigger and shoot her in the chest while only rehearsing the scene?
He apparently fired twice, and hit two people.
“I was told that a “prop” gun is utterly incapable of being fired.”
Really?
Ya, he will be standing there with the pistol pointing at us saying..”Take the shot!” “It worked for me and will work for you.”
Because he is a killer.
Kind of creepy but it fits Baldwin perfectly
Be hard to resist the temptation if given the opportunity to shoot a Colt Dragoon
Holding that 4 pound monster would be half the battle
He fired one round and the slug went straight through the cinematographer’s chest and then hit the director in shoulder who was standing behind her. It was one bullet that killed her and wounded the guy standing behind her.
That splains the live round...
“He apparently fired twice, and hit two people.”
It’s best not to assume. He fired once, the bullet went through the woman and hit the man who was standing behind her.
a blank firing weapon has to have an operable barrel or it will explode. all are referred to as props. fakes can be used in non use situations carrying, throwing or dropping but not in close ups.
And that explain why Baldwin and others near him was splattered with the woman’s blood when she got hit by the slug.
They should have a skit with Baldwin doing Trump shooting someone on 5th Avenue
“He apparently fired twice, and hit two people.”
Nope.
if true, should be grounds for a massive civil lawsuit...
It doesn’t make him look any better - because the armorer was hired by the production company. Baldwin owns the production company.
Best part is that Baldwin’s insurance companies won’t pay any claims because Baldwin and his production didn’t follow standard risk management policies for the use of firearms in movie productions. The insurance companies’ lawyers are going to have field day with discovery.
