This is the industry practice: for shots where an actor aims a gun directly at the camera, ballistics shields are set up between the gun and the crew, just in case.

You were told wrong. The type of gun you're describing would be one most likely used in a stage play. Almost every gun you've ever seen in a Western movie are real, loaded with blanks. They call them "props on a movie set.
Suspect the fix is already in. Why wasn’t Baldwin arrested immediately for suspicion of homicide, drug and alcohol tested and the gun confiscated and the remaining casings ( if any) tested for prints and DNA ? What was happening on the set when he shot her? He must have been really close if the bullet or projectile went through her and wounded the second man. Where is the police diagram outlining the exact position of everyone on the set when the shot was fired? What was the exact relationship between the woman and Baldwin? Very much doubt any of these questions or facts will be answered by the New Mexico police who are controlled by Democratic pols after “thoroughly” investigating a shooting by Hollywood liberal icon Baldwin.

Yup. They're trying to throw shade on the armorer, who probably deserves it, but the shot was fired at human beings by Baldwin, not by her. Lots of misinformation making the rounds but that's the bottom line.
There are rubber guns that are just for looks. This wasn’t one of those.

Try to imagine the scenario where someone shoots and kills a person, claims it was an accident and does not get arrested immediately. She probably got the job because her Dad, a Hollywood gun expert, recommended her to his filmmaking contacts.
Baldwin probably assumed that she was raised by her father to be a gun expert, and like father, like daughter.
So, the firearm used in the shooting was a real firearm and not a “prop”(fake) gun.
