Want to Lose Weight? Try Intermittent Fasting For Weight Loss, Says Study

Intermittent fasting is the new health trend that is slowly but steadily encroaching on the number 1 spot. It promises weight loss, improves metabolism and reverses many lifestyle-related diseases. Now a new study review led by University of Illinois Chicago researchers says that intermittent fasting can produce clinically significant weight loss as well as improve metabolic health in individuals with obesity. The findings of the study were published in the journal Annual Review of Nutrition.

"We noted that intermittent fasting is not better than regular dieting; both produce the same amount of weight loss and similar changes in blood pressure, cholesterol and inflammation," said Krista Varady, professor of nutrition at the UIC College of Applied Health Sciences and author of "Cardiometabolic Benefits of Intermittent Fasting."

According to the analysis published in the Annual Review of Nutrition, all forms of fasting reviewed produced mild to moderate weight loss, 1-8 per cent from baseline weight, which represents results that are similar to that of more traditional, calorie-restrictive diets. Intermittent fasting regimens may also benefit health by decreasing blood pressure and insulin resistance, and in some cases, cholesterol and triglyceride levels are also lowered. Other health benefits, such as improved appetite regulation and positive changes in the gut microbiome, have also been demonstrated.

A wheat free diet can achieve most of the things in this plan along with not leaving you hungry and thus likely to binge. I fast on occasion to “reset” myself, but I don’t do it regularly in an attempt to drop weight.

“It’s easy with empty shelves joe.”

Which is EXACTLY why they’re pushing it now, when they laughed it off for the past 20 years or so.

A routine weekly colonoscopy prep will do the same trick. If enough people do it, that might lead to another toilet paper shortage...

This won't work because intermittent fasting requires discipline. The majority of Americans, especially those that need to lose weight have very little mental, physical, and psychological discipline.

Exercise? - No way. Too hard. Cut out fatty foods and excess carbs? - No way. Too hard.

Just give me a pill of anything per day.

Whatever it takes to get the obese to stop eating.

Study costing how much? It only supports what has been known for a few thousand years.

Michael Berry had the author of the book, Life in the Fasting Lane. It works. It's not just about weight loss. It's also about allowing your kidneys, intestines, etc. to recover and heal. Helps with kidney, liver and other problems. Have been following the guidelines for about a month. My kidney numbers have improved significantly during that time. Also helps with high blood pressure and diabetes.

So what do you do, eat pretty much what you want (within reason) within a window of time each day? I’ve heard some say the window starts when you have coffee in the morning even if you done eat for a couple of hours.

I have heard there are several different ways to intermittent fast.

My allergist said it’s great for the immune system and his advice was to eat normal for 10 days and then cut your calorie intake by half for 3-4 days and it would give the same results as other intermittent fasting diets.

This link actually has information on the different intermittent fasting plans.
