On Monday night, Jon Gruden informed the team that he will resign as the team’s head coach after a New York Times piece was written in regards to emails he sent back in 2011.
The piece showed a number of concerning emails with vulgar criticism directed at Roger Goddell, President Barack Obama and more. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders received word of these emails on Friday but did not take action over the weekend.
Instead, Gruden coached on Sunday against the Bears in what was his final game as the coach for the Raiders. The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero via his Twitter account.

Long day, late night.
Waiting on my NiaTonin flush before bed.

Gruden brought Bruce Allen to Tampa Bay also.
:: Bruce Allen was at WFT from 2010 - 2019 ::
Weren’t they correctly called the “Redskins” in that time frame?
I wish.
I don’t know, but I don’t want to be fired.
your probably right...they wont touch him for awhile, but i bet if he started football podcast he’d be a big hit again.
What platform will allow him?
He called someone a “queer”. I guess that’s homophobic. But isn’t that what the Q in LGBTQ stands for?
Gruden is my new hero for having said what so many people think, unabashedly. He’s wealthy and can retire or do other things of value in life without having to kiss the *ss of any cancel culture woke master. He has my admiration.
He's going to get the rest of salary due to him.
He ought to be suing whoever snooped and dug up his private emails. Hulk Hogan won a similar lawsuit a few years back.
I couldn’t imagine Vince Lombardi, Don Shula or Tony Dungy sending a message like these.
Why would he get the rest if he resigned?
“ They say he insulted gays and minorities and Goodell and was apparently a big meanie.”
They also said he insulted Obama. It’s entirely possible the Obama, gay, and minority insults were all directed toward the same person (Obama).
My guess: Gruden’s salacious emails were done not only as Head Coach of the Raiders, but also when he was still an employee of ESPN. Both the Raiders and ESPN turned over the emails to NFL league offices.
Will be interesting to see. Typically, coaching contracts are guaranteed. I could see if he was fired for cause, he might not get the money but he resigned.
So you could sign a 10 year/ $100 million contract and resign the next day and still get paid?
The Raiders are the poorest, or one of the poorest, teams in the NFL. They can't afford to pay out everything.
Most players in the NFL are not on fully guaranteed contracts. Not that long ago, no contracts in the NFL were guaranteed at all.
Excellent point.
I cancelled Twitter.
I still have a FB account, but I rarely use it, and avoid political topics. But still, it would be better to remove it.
