I envy you your wilderness time! There’s nothing better for my soul, to see God’s amazing creations.
We’ve moved - closer to town but with a stretch of forest behind us. Neighbors said I can trespass across their property to get to the Cherokee National Forest behind them. Me and my trustee Yorkie (a 5 lb hiking marvel) were learning the terrain and finding the deer trails until i twisted my knee falling down the stairs at night, just like they do in the movies - all the way to the bottom. It’s been 2 weeks of hobbling around and staying on flat ground. I’m walking much better, but to deal with the hills of East Tennessee I’ll have to be almost 100%. I didn’t know getting old and being uncoordinated would be so debilitating.
I remember back in 1976 we went house boating on Lake Shasta and it looked about like your lake as they were having a bad drought back then.
We have been having a terrible drought here in Eastern WA. I guess all over WA.

I was somewhat put on the spot by the reporter, but somehow in that instance I felt that I needed to counter the image of an act of mass murder with something beautiful if not profound and I didn’t have much time to think about it, and without consciously thinking about it, the words just flowed from a special place in my brain and my heart that surprised even me as the words popped out. I guess you could say that I was inspired and the inspiration “did” as advertised. ;0)

I am most fortunate to be able to call my office/work environment "a wilderness" as that is exactly what it is, but- often I get so caught up in the work tasks that I forget to stop and smell the roses.

I might of taken about 6-9 boat trips over the entire season, to the back of the lake. We probably got half of the hikers that we would normally get, as they have to walk 6 miles in, and 6 miles out when there is no water taxi, and only 1 mile in and 1 mile out when the lake is full. A 2 mile walk off trail versus a 12 mile walk off trail definitely became a factor this year with the hikers.

You (exit82) had so many great comments up thread that I read and wanted to comment on, but now find myself fading a bit down the final stretch and lacking the motivation to git’ er’ dun’. FWIW I read the posts/replies and they are being catalogued and stored in the brain for future reference. ;0)
The drought is real, but CA has refused to build dams or reservoirs, nor will they build desalinization plants AND they continue to release something like 78% of the fresh water into the ocean.
It cannot be said enough: liberalism is a mental illness.

Hey Spunky... that makes sense since I am on the west coast and some posters are hours ahead back east.
I just wanted to answer all of the posts addressed to me as I will be back up in the wilderness tomorrow for a stretch of time and be out of communication with everyone.

Better lake level conditions this year... for Shasta and Huntington, but they will be getting drained down fast any day now.
Eastern WA eh? My sister and her family used to live up in Republic. It’s east, but also way north.
