Walk In Tub

I love a good, hot bath. I'm 73 and mobility is a problem. Walk ins are expensive- Has anyone invented a drop-on-top-of-your-existing-tub-rail, a door unit that raises an existing tub to around 30", so I can sit on a chair in a "walk in" without paying 6K ?

Never have used one but my question about walk-in tubs is... do you have to sit there until all the water runs out?

$6k? Last one I got quoted was over $15K, plus I’d have to hire a carpenter to make a big enough hole for them to get the tub in my bathroom. Ain’t happening unless I win the lottery. Which means I’d have to buy tickets. That ain’t happening either.

I think so. I think the worst part though is you have to sit there while it fills up too.

“Never have used one but my question about walk-in tubs is... do you have to sit there until all the water runs out?”

That is why, when, we retroed our master bath, we had the tub torn out and replaced with a walk in shower and big tiled sit on bench.

do you have to sit there until all the water runs out?

They're equipped with suction pumps to fast empty the water.

Surely there’s an engineer in this crowd ... I have a very simplistic install idea I need to unload

Go to etsy.com. Put in walk in shower conversion. There are over half a dozen at about $500 or less. Good luck!

$6k is low for a Walk-in tub. I’ve sold them in the past & know several people who are in the business. They are around $12-20K depending. Most have financing, but even when affordable, they are of little value. They don’t make you cleaner than a shower, they don’t increase the value of the home. Reality is that it lowers property values. A walk-in shower conversion ranging from $8 - 18K is a much better investment.

If you simply want a good soak. Get a hot tub with a high quality set of stairs into & out of it. They run several hundred to several thousand $.

A good Jacuzzi style jetted tub to sit in should be under three thousand. They can be placed in a garage or a sun room, if the floor structure will support the weight (water weighs 8 pounds per gallon, IMS. A shower then a soaking is in order here, it would appear. I have been exploring replacing my six foot soaking tub with a jetted smaller tub. So far have found one that will fit right in for twenty-three hundred, installed. It is an acrylic form made in Tennessee.

I’ve seen where they advertise ‘fast empty’ but I always was curious about why they never mention how long it takes to fill up.

You should probably have a nice long sit down shower and use half the water.

Who has time to sit there and wait for water to fill and empty?

Most brands take several minutes to empty. Only a few have drain assist pumps.
