Parents Canceled by Their Own Children
American Thinker ^ | 19 Jul, 2021 | Caryn Boddie

It was shocking to my husband and me that our children canceled us for being who and what we are.

It happened that, as I was thinking about writing about my husband and me being canceled by our own children six months ago — we have been agonizing about not being able to talk to them or see our grandson for all that time — a thought popped into my mind: blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Weeks ago, while struggling with how to understand what has happened, I picked up a copy of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. Then I looked at a book by David Horowitz entitled Barack Obama's Rules for Revolution: The Alinsky Model. What I read convinced me that our family, more so our children, had been targeted. We, as a middle-class family who used to live together in the suburbs, were in the bull's eye.

Consider the last chapter of Rules, which was published in 1971. It is entitled "The Way Forward." Alinsky writes, "Organization for action will now and in the decade ahead center upon America's white middle class. That is where the power is[.] ... Large parts of the middle class, the 'silent majority,' must be activated[.]"

The left has been working on making the children of the middle class into radicals, turning them against their parents and their parents' values for fifty years now, in multiple generations. All the things we middle-class parents believed in and called good, our children now call bad and false, and more than bad and false, worthy of destruction, especially if we parents are Christian and conservative, and even more so if we are Trump-supporters. Our cancelation is the fruit of the left's strategy to remake America.

The communists have taken the long march through the institutions. Children need to be raised with the knowledge that this will be attempted to change their beliefs. Talking to other children will help too. Sometimes they will listen to another person and not blow them off likr they will often do with their parents.

This battle was lost 100 years ago. Parents brought a lot of this on themselves when they surrendered the responsibility for the education of their children -- one of their primary responsibilities as parents -- to the State.

Did the author of this piece ever pick up a textbook from their children's schools? Did they ever have conversations with these kids about what they were learning in school?

I suspect the answer is "No."

You can easily see how this works in my neck of the woods. There was a lot of debate when the governor shut down the schools during the COVID-19 fiasco last spring. That continued through the summer when they began making plans for partial in-classroom and partial web-based classes in the fall of 2020.

But the parents here were absolutely adamant about one thing, come hell or high water: high school SPORTS would not be disrupted in any way.

That's pretty much all you need to know about how easy it is to run roughshod over dim-witted people.

It’s been true for decades: kids want to be “free” and to be able to live their lives however they want — and they’re being told that living under a communist dictatorship is the best way to achieve that goal.

The USSR woke up after 70 years.
Cuba is waking up after 60 years.
We have a ways to go.

When Donald Trump was running for president, my husband voted for him, but I could not. After he was president, we both supported him. Our kids did hate Trump with a passion, the same passion those around them expressed, an almost demonic hatred.

Maybe the kids just realized that Mom is a feckless loser, and they have no interest in listening to anything that someone like this says.

My own mother says she voted for Trump for 2016 but turned on him within months and became this rabid liberal ass. The lockdown made her stay home, watching the teevee all day (the Spew, Madcow etc…). Made everyone mask up at Thanksgiving (I wasn’t there). Every conversation became political, peppered with the “correct” leftie key words.

She’s been canceled by me. Haven’t spoken to her since January. She’s almost 80 and I’m struggling to find the grace to let it go but I’m not there yet.

“Our kids did hate Trump with a passion, the same passion those around them expressed, an almost demonic hatred.”

Demonic hatred is accurate. and as good a description as I have heard. I know people that have an almost Pavlovian reaction to Trump. Almost foaming at the mouth while telling me how Trump is like Hitler and is a dictator. If you ask them what he has done to be considered a dictator they act like you slapped them, pause for a few seconds and say something about the way he treats woman, the way he tweets and that he is racist, or one of the MSM false narratives will be repeated. If you ask for specifics, no policies or actions can be given. The reactions are those of classic Pavlovian Conditioning. It is amazing to watch, if it was not so sad. I almost think you could say the name “Trump” to a dead Trump hater in a coffin and they would start foaming at the mouth.

In the old days, generations sometimes disagreed with each other. Families could sit and have a civil discussion, or maybe a heated debate, but agree to disagree in the end.

Today’s younger generation will not agree to disagree. They will cancel you when they become adults. But, let’s not blame Alinsky, social media, or anything else. These young people are adults making their own decisions. If your adult children have cancelled you, let them go. You did your best as parents raising them. Now they must make their own mistakes. If you’ve done nothing wrong, but your children want nothing to do with you because of politics, there’s nothing you can do, except to let them go and look out for yourself.

It was shocking to my husband and me that our children canceled us for being who and what we are. >>>>>>>>>>>>

Happened to me. Both were indoctrinated by their universities.

It all began with Climate change. I laughed at them and told them to spend time out camping, and they would see the climate change every day.

Now they are both flaming leftist idiots who have marginalized us as parents. They are all hat and no cattle, believe that owning a car is verboten because of the carbon footprint, and that the world is too far gone to have children. Seriously, I never raised them to be like this,my only sin was to allow them the freedom to set their own course in life and they set it badly once they left home.

And my will? Cut them both out and left them each a pittance. And I let them know.

Let the battles continue, we plan to win with NAGA.

Meanwhile we enjoy life with all of our conservative friends and their children who ride horses, shoot at the range, and spend most of their spare time hunting and fishing, as well as four wheeling cross country.

Neither of my two kids own their own home as the approach the age of 40.

Agree, money still talks. Cut them off. Same with contributions to charities, universities and such. Also, vote and support school choice and vouchers. Break the teachers unions. Defund them. Cut off money to any and everything liberal.

Both Hitler and Stalin said words similar to; “Give me your youth and I’ll give you a new world”. Now the DemonRats live by those words!

My wife and I were very involved in our kid’s education. Talking around the dinner table, helping with homework, my wife volunteering at the school (3x a week or more).

So we were able to counter a lot of the stuff they were taught, and they were able to counter a lot of the stuff they were being taught.

As 20-somethings they are all very conservative in their thinking in most aspects of life. Although I have to admit I don’t agree with all of their choices!

“Every conversation became political...”

That is difficult to deal with. My own mother passed away about 8 years ago at 96. She only listened to the MSM. She didn’t talk politics much, and when she did I could shrug it off as all she knew is from the local news and Nightline.

But friends (and family) that constantly bring up their liberal politics in spite of knowing my beliefs - I’m done with them.

Friends and family that I know are liberals but we can have civil conversations - that is great.
