Amid sagging Covid-19 vaccination rates and stubborn levels of vaccine hesitancy, Dr. Anthony Fauci told CNN on Saturday the United States’ successful campaigns to eradicate smallpox and polio in the last century wouldn’t have succeeded if those vaccines were subject to the same level of misinformation that currently surrounds coronavirus vaccines.
In an interview with CNN, Fauci warned that some unvaccinated adults have been exposed to false information, are often skeptical of objective Covid-19 data and frequently justify their decision not to get vaccinated with “things that are really just not true.”
After anchor Jim Acosta compared the situation to polio, the government’s top infectious disease expert offered a dire warning: Fauci said efforts to eliminate smallpox (which was eradicated worldwide over 40 years ago) and polio (which has been eliminated in almost every country) would have faltered under the current climate of misinformation.

“If we had had the pushback for vaccines the way we're seeing on certain media, I don't think it would've been possible at all to not only eradicate smallpox, we probably would still have smallpox,” Fauci told Acosta, “and we probably would still have polio in this country if we had the kind of false information that's being spread now.”

Polio cases were already on the decrease due to improved sanitation, hygiene, and better nutrition. And there was considerable fear porn/misinformation about the disease also. It was not rampant, but the publicity made people think it was.
And the “treatments” were not good. Individuals were subjected to horrific treatments such as tendon cutting, surgical straightening and prolonged splinting; these rushed procedures were responsible for much of the residual paralysis, deformities and lingering stiffness that victims suffered.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2019 stated that approximately three-fourths of people infected with poliovirus will experience no symptoms whatsoever.
About one out of four infected people will have flu-like symptoms, lasting two to five days, which may include sore throat, fever, tiredness, nausea, headache and stomach pain.
About one out of two hundred people will have weakness or paralysis in their arms, legs or both; although this weakness or paralysis can last a lifetime, many individuals recover completely, and, in most, muscle function returns to some degree.
Among the subset of people with paralysis, the CDC says, between two and ten out of one hundred people die “because the virus affects the muscles that help them breathe.” And I also read that the guy who first came up with the “iron lung” to help the patients was maligned — reminds me of the Dr. bashing going on today for Drs trying to help their patients.
In addition, due to lab errors, the rollout of Polio Vax had to be suspended during the first month.
Cutter Labs vaccine was administered to over four hundred thousand people, including many schoolchildren. Of those, over half—two hundred and twenty thousand individuals—in five Western and mid-Western states were injected with a bad batch.
Because Salk’s vaccine used a “killed” version of the polio germ, it “supposedly carried no risk of giving recipients ‘vaccine-associated polio paralysis,’” but within days, reports of paralysis began surfacing.
Within a month, the mass vaccination program against polio had to be suspended. Salk’s vaccine had caused seventy thousand cases of muscle weakness, one hundred and sixty-four cases of severe paralysis and ten deaths. Three fourths (75 percent) of the victims remained paralyzed for the rest of their lives.
As a result of the Cutter incident, more people developed paralysis from the 1955 vaccine than would have developed it from a wild, natural poliovirus.
Moreover, children given the Cutter Laboratories vaccines were more likely to experience paralysis in their arms, suffer severe and permanent paralysis, require breathing assistance in iron lungs and die than children naturally infected with poliovirus.
But at least they stopped the Vax and figured out what went wrong. Unlike today where they wave their hands and invoke that terrible disease — coincidence—nothing to see just continuing jabbing.
Wyeth Laboratories subsequently produced another defective, crippling Salk vaccine. Today, it is anyone’s guess as to how many people contracted polio due to Salk’s original vaccine.
Between 1923 and 1953 (before the Salk vaccine’s introduction), the polio death rate in the U.S. had declined on its own by 47 percent; England had observed a similar pattern, with a 55 percent decline.
Following the use of Salk’s vaccine between 1955 and 1963, however, cases of polio in the U.S. increased—by 50 percent from 1957 to 1958 and by 80 percent between 1958 and 1959.
And so the Government redefined the disease, so that diseases that had been classified as polio were classed as something else-thus improving the numbers.
The revised definition expanded the time period for symptoms of paralysis to a minimum of sixty days and required confirmation of residual paralysis at least twice during the course of the disease.
Because paralytic poliomyelitis is rarely permanent and often lasts for only a short period of time, patients with a short paralytic duration were no longer counted as having polio.
Prior Vax these diseases were often labeled Polio:
Aseptic meningitis, Transverse myelitis, undiagnosed congenital syphilis; arsenic and DDT toxicity; Guillain-Barré syndrome; provocation of limb paralysis by intramuscular injections (including vaccination) hand, foot and mouth disease; and lead poisoning. West Nile virus also has symptoms that are clinically identical to polio, to the extent that it is referred to in medical journals as “West Nile poliomyelitis.
Dr. Salk testified before a Senate subcommittee in 1977 that the oral polio vaccine had caused most of the polio cases in the U.S. since the early 1960s.
The year after the first rollout, the Vax was contaminated with SV40 - it took the Govt. about 50 years to admit it.
In conclusion, the polio vax was not without it’s problems. However, we were lucky that Quackster Fauci wasn’t in charge, or we’d likely have increased those tragedies back then, because he would be waving his arms and saying it’s all a coincidence-make sure to get your child the vax or else you’ll be a stupid and negligent parent.
And also, back then-parents had to sign permission sheets before their child was vaxed - at least that’s the way it was in my county. I was in the lucky group of the first vaxed-we didn’t get the Cutter Lab bad batch.

The Salk vaccine was the one I had at age 5...in 1954...
I remember swimming pools being temporarily closed and being told I should not drink from a public water fountain.
Then, one day, my grade school class marched to the basement of the church next door to get our polio shots (or a placebo, I guess). Our parents had given their permission for us to participate in the trial. Later on we each received “polio pioneer” cards.
There was a lot of “good” excitement in the air at that point.
What would AIDS have been like had Fauci and others not insisted it was a common concern to downplay how poofters were dominating know cases in the US?
Polio hit the young especially hard, covid does not do the same. Bad analogy, Fauci.
As I recall, the government did not resort to fearmongering, bribing, begging, threatening and other extreme measures to coerce people into getting the vaccine back then.
Unlike this fiasco today.

In New Zealand when I was 5 they inoculated every child at my elementary school for polio...They marched us all down to the local high school and lined us up...
That happened for 3 years from 1954 and on then we had 2 years of the nice red drink...
