The former is the highest rating Gallup has ever recorded on the measure dating back to when it was first taken more than 13 years ago. The latter is the highest since the coronavirus pandemic began early last year.
What's the point: The last year has been tough for a lot of Americans. Among other issues, the coronavirus dominated our lives, and there was a very contentious presidential election. But with the election in the rearview mirror and
more people returning to their pre-pandemic routines, Americans are feeling a lot more optimistic.
A number of different measures show Americans are feeling better about themselves and the state of the country than they have in a while.
The Gallup measures I mentioned shouldn't be too surprising given what we've been seeing from
Axios/Ipsos polling. More Americans have been saying that their emotional well being has improved in the last week than gotten worse in every survey since May. From when the question was first asked in March 2020 through April of this year, more Americans had said it had gotten worse than better in every survey.
This positivity goes beyond the personal and into the political.
Last week, an
NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist College poll found that 47% of Americans said the country was going in the right direction. That was within the margin of error of the 49% who said we were going in the wrong direction.

Stolen election, authoritarian lockdowns including unconstitutional prohibition on worshipping in church, and murder hornets mobs rioting in every city and giving random strangers violent attacks to the head, people had a reason to feel down and oppressed by the Democrat government and their shock troops.
But now you can go shopping, to the movies, bars, concert tours, and beach and everybody has put the pain out of their memory because of simple minded bullstalin. And the world is amping up for another global shut down. Just look at Australia and Thailand and even Sweden.

Oh ya. The country is full of optimistic people.

“Wonder how many of the 59% are getting free money from Big Papa Government?”
Exactly. 50% of the population does not pay income taxes. Most of them are likely receiving signifiant benefits from the government. Consider them “thriving”. This mean less than 10% of the productive citizens consider themselves thriving. Most of them are likely government workers.

Confusion explained here. High optimism is being confused with “High opioids”, and yes 59% of the population expect to be higher on opioids in the next ten years. At least.

You are wrong. People love $4-$5/gallon gasoline, food shortages, skyrocketing prices of housing, groceries and building materials. Long waits at short-staffed restaurants, pharmacies and banks. They love being muzzled on Facebook and Twitter. They especially like turning on YouTube to find their favorite channels have been terminated.

You serious. Here in mid-Missouri no one would agree with that. Inflation, energy costs through the roof. Nothing open because you can’t employ anyone.
