Danny Smith (Source: Vickie Wilbanks) OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – An 8-year-old and a 9-year-old boy have been charged with killing a man who was shot with a rifle while cutting down brush in a South Carolina field, authorities said.
Both boys shot at Danny Andrew Smith with a rifle as he rode his tractor in the field near Westminster on June 23, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said in a statement.
Deputies responded to Coffee Road last week after a missing man’s wife was looking for her husband after not being able to make contact with him.

Yes, I’m in South Carolina, and though blacks commit many crimes, someone shot in a field in Oconee County is more likely to have been shot by someone white. Also some people have been jumping to the conclusion that the boys meant to kill him. The statement said they “...discharged a firearm in a reckless manner in the direction of Mr. Smith...” Even at that age or younger, though, I think I’d have had enough sense not to do that.

It happened in the small town of Winchester, S.C. I’d wager all 2500 residents know who did it.
Well Captain it might be because roughly 2 to 3% of the total population of America account for over 50% of all violent crime but in this case I’m going to lean that is probably stupid little white kids who seen too many video games and have very little parenting

They will be allowed to live, and will not spend the rest of their lives in jail. They’ll likely be fully free by the time they are 18.
And they’re also likely to kill again.
Somehow I get the mental image of two dumbass kids messing around with a 22lr. My Dad and Uncle taught us kids gun safety with the Boot Method. Mess up and you get the Boot. But not every kid gets properly trained. In any case in typical modern journalism fashion the story is poorly written with too little data.

It all depends on how fast you want them to bleed out.
If you have an half hour, .22 will do the job just fine.

Unless you have good shot placement. Then a 22 is as good as anything. More people are killed by 22lr than anything else.
We didn’t get The Boot but we did get multiple repeats of Dad’s Laws of Gun Safety. And I remember him clearly saying to look at what’s behind and beyond where you are shooting because a .22 shot can go a mile.
Rare for kids this young to murder, there was something similar in England years ago when two young boys killed a toddler.
When we were kids we did a lot of plinking...never at people. Hang the little bastards.

Easy. You put them both in Juvie until 18 and then transfer them both to the adult population for a few years.

See, if only one child had handled the gun and they reported it, it would be looked at differently.
THAT SAID, they each took a turn...which makes it premeditated on the part of the 2nd shooter. Since you cannot trust who the 2nd shooter was, then by all means send them both away for the same time.
They were LOOKING to cause harm to that man......the 2nd shooter confirmed it by his actions.....
