Sounds like a typical riot in Portland, Oregon!

Computer models are unanimous in showing a highly unusual weather pattern moving into place over the Pacific Northwest beginning this weekend, with an extraordinarily strong high pressure area aloft, colloquially known as a "heat dome," anchored over the region.

Government mismanagement is a huge part of the potential problems from any natural disaster.

Forest management and wise water storage and use would go a long way to preventing the problems US residents will be facing should the weather be extreme.

Prepper ping.

Bad weather or wildfires could cause a lot of food production and transport issues.

There have been threads addressing the potential for a wheat crop failure, which means a real problem for basic staples. Best to get ready for it now.

Yes I’m going to be right underneath it, and it’s already quite hot so we’re expecting even hotter.

Mind you I am not so sure about 1,200 years, it was pretty hot in 2003 as well.

The wildfire risk is increasing 90% due to greater human activity (and a certain amount of arson) and 10% due to any change in the climate. There have been slightly more moderate climate intervals in the past but most of this region is semi-arid to desert and always has been (since the ice age at least), what has changed the most is that people are now crowded into the region and the most popular lifestyle is “exurban” meaning that people have settled a lot of dry areas around forest margins. It’s no wonder there are so many wildfire emergencies in this region.

So Newsom says he will JIST NOW begin clearing fuel out of the forests. A little too late.

Insurance at peril for many in California’s risky fire areas
Insurers have been taking a hard look at the millions of Californians who live in areas with a very high risk of wildfires, especially in recent years when a series of costly fires incinerated thousands of rural homes.

From 2015 through 2019, insurers dropped property coverage for more than 143,000 customers in 13 counties,

That is very true. But 112 in Portland, OR beats the all-time record high of 107 in 1942.

In North Idaho, some insurers are telling homeowners they won’t have insurance if there is a tree within 100 feet of your house. One insurer says 200 feet.

That is just plain impossible in most of North Idaho.

Pocatello has highs of 100 to 103 coming next Mon/Tue/Wed. 103 is the highest I've experienced in the last 20 years. -27F was the lowest. It will be time to walk the fence line with a hammer to tap all the nails back in soon.

The water restrictions have already screwed the crops. A fire will burn the withering crops that haven't already been plowed under.

That would have been a good 5 year supply, but the a*hole in charge of the Army Corps of Engineers drained all the fresh water out of the dams and into the ocean to ensure there would be none for the farmers. It is intentional warfare against the food producers and people.

Yep, the Central Valley Project (Feds) and The State Water Project were designed to give 5 years of drought protection.

And yet they are dumping thousands of gallons of water in the ocean. I can’t reconcile the thinking on this.
