Computer models are unanimous in showing a highly unusual weather pattern moving into place over the Pacific Northwest beginning this weekend, with an extraordinarily strong high pressure area aloft, colloquially known as a "heat dome," anchored over the region.

Yes I’m going to be right underneath it, and it’s already quite hot so we’re expecting even hotter.

Mind you I am not so sure about 1,200 years, it was pretty hot in 2003 as well.

The wildfire risk is increasing 90% due to greater human activity (and a certain amount of arson) and 10% due to any change in the climate. There have been slightly more moderate climate intervals in the past but most of this region is semi-arid to desert and always has been (since the ice age at least), what has changed the most is that people are now crowded into the region and the most popular lifestyle is “exurban” meaning that people have settled a lot of dry areas around forest margins. It’s no wonder there are so many wildfire emergencies in this region.

Yes, and here in the southern Puget Sound region, we’re expecting three days of 100+ temperatures Sat-Sun-Mon. Rare, but not unheard of. We’ve had quite a pile of rain so far this year, so we aren’t burning up like areas south of us.
