If there is to be a property tax it should not be based upon the value of the home. This is a scam.

The basis should only be the potential real impact a property has upon the city, county and state. For instance, a two bedroom one bath home with a one car carport impacts sewage, schools, roads and parks less than a five bedroom, for bath home with a the car garage.

...seems logical to me...

The natural inclinations of all men (birth-right), in order to gain true security (sanctuary) for themselves and their progeny, are endowed with certain emanations from God.
Those being the right to LIFE, LIBERTY and PROPERTY.
Possession of these rights allow for the \free conscience\ of the person.
There is no personal security with anyone of these missing.

Yes AND no.

Any given two bedroom house in a neighborhood will pay a lower property tax - based on value - compared to a five bedroom home in the same neighborhood.

My friend Brian lives just down the street from my Wife and I.

We have a two bedroom home and there are two of us who live here. Brian has a five bedroom home, has never married and lives alone. (FWIW we both built our custom homes in 1996). We wanted a small home, Brian wanted a large home for resale value. Brian is taxed more then we are due to value.

IF we were to tax on ‘impacts’ then should he pay more? What about a family of six living in a two bedroom home?

Additionally, we have wells and septic systems and any ‘impact’ we have on our acreage is directly OUR responsibility to fix (we are on our third well pump) or pump out (septic system/tank). Our subdivision upkeeps the roads which we pay annually.

I’m OK with paying my $2,500 property tax each year. I’m happy we live in the county and NOT the city which over taxes IMHO.

Jumping in without reviewing previous posts:

Taxes being a necessary evil should always be kept at a minimum level. Taxes are only needed to “collectively “ allow a gov or people to meet a communal need that is not possible or very unwieldy when done by individuals.

The Romans used an individual type of tax system concerning roads and water delivery along the Northern Africa part of the empire, the landowner maintained the road along his boundary as well as the water delivery system (enforced by the power of Rome). During the Roman Era there was a flourishing agricultural economy and a solid road system. After the fall of Rome deterioration set in and after the area was conquered by The Muslim hordes (where men conquer vs work) until now the desolation is complete, an area of deep poverty remains to this day.

It is not practical for each family to maintain the roads in and around their property nor is it just for non property owners to use those roads without contributing to road maintenance, hence the need for taxes to allow centralized control and planning by duly elected representatives of the community.

These things make sense along with “Border Security”, National defense, a court system with the ability to police, hospitals, etc.

However, being a free Capitalist nation things that are life “Enhancers” should only be done by the selling of municipal bonds. What this means is your hard earned money will not be confiscated by politicians who “have a dream” of being do gooders.

If your city “Needs” a park then let those have the vision INVEST their money through donations of charity or through buying bonds to fund the project. If no takers, then do without as every family in the community does with their own budget.

As for funding the government let us move to Only a sales tax at the retail level for things other than food and medicine. After all we are a Capitalist Nation, let us then celebrate the accumulation of wealth and capital and not punish it.

A sales receipt would instantly show TRUTH IN TAXATION for it would show local, county, state, and federal taxes broken out as well as the cost of goods sold.

If one spends their wealth then the formula is simple, the more one spends the more taxes one pays. Exported goods would ship without the onerous taxes of government as part of goods sold. American industries would flourish overnight from exports, Americans would see a true growth in personal income, and the Government would have to live within their means and be ACCOUNTABLE for any frivolous spending.

The Federal sales tax should start at 10% and include all monies currently confiscated (taxed) at every federal level currently. Tax increases at the Federal level should require a 2/3rds vote in the house and senate. This should be duplicated at the state, county, local levels.

We have a truth in lending law designed to keep citizens from paying hidden interest on loans.

WE NEED A TRUTH IN TAXATION LAW ( better an amendment) to expose ALL hidden taxes to the people through a sales tax.

No more IRS
NO MORE AUDITS
CITIZENS are free from coercion or garnishment
The states collect taxes from business and distribute to local, county, and fed

Governors would have true States Rights by withholding taxes when Fed overstep or fail to act (Border Crisis)

Just a few thoughts, apologies for the lengthy post.

The real problem/scam is that if you do not pay it, they can take your home and make you homeless. So for a measly 200 bucks they could sell your home worth considerably more.

So here we are, potentially facing runaway inflation, with massive job destruction. Will people even be able to pay their Real Estate Tax? Just another type of insecurity people may be facing.
