Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think

I know, you probably haven't even driven one yet, let alone seriously contemplated buying one, so the prediction may sound a bit bold, but bear with me.

We are in the middle of the biggest revolution in motoring since Henry Ford's first production line started turning back in 1913.

And it is likely to happen much more quickly than you imagine.

Many industry observers believe we have already passed the tipping point where sales of electric vehicles (EVs) will very rapidly overwhelm petrol and diesel cars.

It is certainly what the world's big car makers think.

Jaguar plans to sell only electric cars from 2025, Volvo from 2030 and last week the British sportscar company Lotus said it would follow suit, selling only electric models from 2028.

In 1908 there were not ten million pages of environmental and other local regulations making new power plant development into a logistical nightmare.

Western civilization is turning into a gigantic clusterf&^%.

Plus I heard China dominates the lithium battery industry which starts to explain why the Marxists here are so eager for electric cars, they want the Chicoms ruling our transportation industry as well.

That’s great, as long as you don’t demand the rest of us drive them, or use our tax dollars to fund it.

Why the hell would I ever do that? I'm a conservative and don't try to tell others what to or not to drive - like you do.

Lithium-ion batteries are recyclable, but they don’t go in the recycling bin. The purpose of recycling lithium-ion batteries is to avoid toxic electronic waste from clogging the landfills and to use the retrieved materials in the fabrication of new products. If you want to dispose of or recycle your old batteries, here are 4 steps you can take to safely recycle them.

How to properly recycle lithium-ion batteries:

Remove the battery from the device if possible.
Store batteries in a cool, dry place such as a plastic container.
If the batteries are physically damaged, store them in an insulated plastic bag to avoid any short-circuiting.
Recycle your batteries in a local battery drop-off bin or at a recycling center.

What to avoid when recycling lithium-ion batteries:

Do not throw out batteries in your regular household garbage or recycling bin.
Do not burn batteries in a fire, they may explode.
Don’t mix damaged, and non-damaged batteries.
Avoid storing batteries in metal containers.
Don’t store batteries for a long period of time.

Yep, where I use to live in New York city, Queens NY, they could barely support air conditioners going on in the summer time. Blackouts happened all the time when the temps started hitting the high 80s. I remember one summer the electric went out and it was so hot almost 100 degrees I kept taking a shower every half hour to cool off. In 2006 we went without electric for a week. And these absolute psychopaths want to bring in millions of electric cars?? And BTW where I use to live is AOCs district, she’s the one who wants all electric cars. Her district wouldn’t last 5 minutes if all cars went electric.......

“Same problem during summer vacation departures with miles of traffic jams.

There is virtually NO air conditioning in an electric vehicle. It would drain your battery quickly.”

Stopped the power draw is less than 2 kw. The typical battery would last about 50 hours.

What was gasoline in 1908? It was an unwanted byproduct of kerosene refining that was allowed to run into the streams around Titusville, PA. Also, not everybody had a car right way. These idiots are attempting to convert the industry in less than 10 years. Not gonna happen. Electrical infrastructure takes much longer to catch up especially when we’re simultaneously making a bad bet on Solar & Wind power.

“Lithium-ion batteries are recyclable, but they don’t go in the recycling bin.”

I don’t think EV owners are throwing their car battery packs into their trash cans!

I’d take the article a little more seriously except the source and writer are hopelessly biased.

Money.
Not to mention that was not my first post in the thread that you replied to.
That would be post # 20.

I recently completed an 1100 mile trip in 16 hours in a 15-year old gas-driven car. It would probably take me three days in a shiny new electric vehicle.

The guy in the video linked below decided to see if he could drive 1000 miles in a day in a Tesla Model 3. He averaged 24 minutes per charging stop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxA8Y69R6uM

He says he traveled 973 miles in 16.5 hours. (He stopped at his hotel instead of finishing the 1,000 miles.) That was divided into 14 hours 6 minutes of actual driving and 2 hours 24 minutes of charging. He kept the battery between 20% and 80% charged. He made six stops to charge, averaging 24 minutes each.

He says the actual practical range of the car for non-urban driving is about 250 miles, not 310 as claimed.

It’s just insane to think that we’re at the point where people are feverishly promoting $50,000 rolling cell phones that can’t even do the job of a $20,000 Nissan Sentra. If you want an EV, buy it. Just don’t tell me it’s my “future.” EV’s might have some practical applications, but they’re central to environmental extremism. Don’t forget it.

What? An average EV costs upwards of $50K. You can buy a decent ICE car for $25K. Modern IC engines can last 15-20 years, and the rest of the car needs little maintenance. Please.

Two issues that are not going away but are swept under the rug by ev cheerleaders: 1. pi$$ poor energy density - a 100kwh ev battery stores as much energy as 3 gallons of gasoline. “

What you say is true, but to be fair, it is misleading when used to compare ICE engines to EV systems. One gallon of gas equalls approximately 40 KWh. An 80KWh battery thus does have the energy density of two gallons of gasoline. However, an ICE is a heat engine with a typical energy efficiency of 20% or less. In other words, only 8 KWh of that gallon of gas is reaching the rear wheels; the rest is lost to heat.

Regenerative EV systems approach 90% efficiency, allowong that same 40 KWh of battery capacity to equal the functional equivalent;ent of 4.5 gallons of gasoline.

And what kind of fuel do you suppose will be used to generate the electricity to charge those electric cars? We listened to Jane Fonda and did away with nuclear power years ago, leaving only fossil fuels to generate electricity. So what do we gain environmentally? Nothing I think. All we have done is to appease the ‘green’ people.

Oh, and don’t be concerned about selected power outages to non-rat areas.

Government imposed EV = poverty and eventually slavery.

I drive empty car dealerships. New cars are not available. Is this how electric cars will be forced upon the public?
