Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think

I know, you probably haven't even driven one yet, let alone seriously contemplated buying one, so the prediction may sound a bit bold, but bear with me.

We are in the middle of the biggest revolution in motoring since Henry Ford's first production line started turning back in 1913.

And it is likely to happen much more quickly than you imagine.

Many industry observers believe we have already passed the tipping point where sales of electric vehicles (EVs) will very rapidly overwhelm petrol and diesel cars.

It is certainly what the world's big car makers think.

Jaguar plans to sell only electric cars from 2025, Volvo from 2030 and last week the British sportscar company Lotus said it would follow suit, selling only electric models from 2028.

Your photo hasn’t debunked anything.

"...as poor people realize that rich people driving fancy EVs are making poor people pay more for electricity."

Not only that, what about when the $10,000+ battery goes four up and needs to be replaced? I guess there'll be a "program" for the poor for that as well. ugh

Full disclosure, my daily driver is a Gen 2 Prius, best car I've ever owned. Had to replace the battery in it last summer after about 210,000 miles. $1,500 for a rebuilt one and it's nowhere near the capacity of a pure EV attery nor is it the more expensive Lithium Ion chemistry.

Do you charge your car using only the charging stations or do you also charge it at home? Also, how much does using the A/C reduce your range?

That’s just it. I don’t think as many will be driving electric cars if EVs come into dominance as some project. I think they’ll wind up being be too expensive and many folks will be compelled to either walk, take a taxi or pool, or ride a bus or train. Their idea is to compact people into cities and burbs.

I will waste my time with an answer to your question. Since your initial response was unclear and insulting I gave you the benefit of doubt. My bad. Since your follow-up question was worse why do you post here? Hope you had fun.

I don’t drive it because it happens to be “clean”. I drive it because it gets 50 mpg vs the 18 mpg my F-250 PSD gets so it saves me about $300 per month in fuel costs. I don’t get wrapped up in defining myself by what I use to get from point A to Point B.

Photos of Teslas in a crash with the batteries flying thru the sides of homes and spilling all over the street plus the battery fires that won’t go out. Starting up again in the junk yard. The environmental damage from the making of the batteries and the waste as the cars are totaled from even minor accidents.

I'm going to start calling the EV Eloi "41st Parallel people".

If you live south of the 41st Parallel, EVs are PEACHY.

North of that is where the trouble arises...

That’s great, as long as you don’t demand the rest of us drive them, or use our tax dollars to fund it.

I hope they do this. Job security forever lol. The increased draw on the grid and increased demand for power will mean more plants (natural gas) and major grid updates (electricians).

Of course it’s nonsense, but I hope that doesn’t stop them heh.

It’s not even a little environmentally friendly, but shh, don’t tell them that, I could use the increased income from oil and gas.

Naturally, once the muggles are stuck in EV buses and whatnot, they’ll decide that the planet _can_ sustain trucks and aircraft and similar large-capacity goods-carrying fuel-burning vehicles that would be inefficient as electric ones.

Tesla claims that "all our supercharger energy will be 100% renewable in 2021".

Does anyone actually believe that?

neighborhood transformers are not sozed to be running at a high/full load 24/7

power companies size the transformers for a neighborhood with the assumption that overnight usage will be significantly lighter than dsytime, and that generally the night temperatures will be cooler than the daytime temps.

if people are all charging cars overnight the transformers don’t have the expected amount of time to cool down

ie they will wear out and fail faster
