Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think

I know, you probably haven't even driven one yet, let alone seriously contemplated buying one, so the prediction may sound a bit bold, but bear with me.

We are in the middle of the biggest revolution in motoring since Henry Ford's first production line started turning back in 1913.

And it is likely to happen much more quickly than you imagine.

Many industry observers believe we have already passed the tipping point where sales of electric vehicles (EVs) will very rapidly overwhelm petrol and diesel cars.

It is certainly what the world's big car makers think.

Jaguar plans to sell only electric cars from 2025, Volvo from 2030 and last week the British sportscar company Lotus said it would follow suit, selling only electric models from 2028.

“taxed at the pump ( charging station) and then taxed at the odometer.

I drive a 92 Volvo; my odometer will say whatever I want it to. In fact I might have the government owing me money! 😁

Nice! that’ll pull 80,000lbs?

After it goes 80 yards, then what?

How much oil and gas did it take to make all the battery cells?

How long to recharge it, and how much generation is needed?

How does it operate up in artic conditions?

What happens when the batteries are old and need replacing?

How often does that happen? What does it cost?

If you turn off the radio, AC, use manual steering etc, can you increase range? lol

yes there is a control aspect to it

as well as a surveillance aspect to it

they know where you are because you pay via cc

they could order power shut down to your charging station are and collect you, if they desired

It will pull 80k for 500 miles. Newer batteries over 600 miles.

400 mile charge in 30 minutes.

Build about ten nuclear power plants in each state and the electric thing MIGHT work.

I recently completed an 1100 mile trip in 16 hours in a 15-year old gas-driven car. It would probably take me three days in a shiny new electric vehicle.

The article is from the UK. The longest one-way journey is from Land’s End in Cornwall to John o’Groats at the northern tip of Scotland which is about 875 miles. I doubt too many take that long a trip there. So the electric car might come to Britain much sooner than it would be practical here.

That looks to be about a 200A generator, that’s a lot of juice for two outlets. Imagine that on a much larger scale. Ouch.

You’re getting to the crux of the matter. It’s about forcing people into cities and towns where they can be controlled far easier.

Imagine the snowy climates where winter storms are the norm and highways become snowbound, blocking traffic for miles.

If all cars were electric ... and were caught up in a three hour traffic jam... dead batteries! Then what?

Not to mention, that there is virtually no heating in an electric vehicle.

And if you get stuck on the road all night, no battery, no heating, no windshield wipers, no radio, no GPS (all these drain the battery) !!!

You can try calling 911 to bring women and children to safety!

But they cannot come to help you since all roads are blocked and the “greenies” will probably require all police cars to be electric also (if we still have police departments then) !!!

And when the roads become unblocked no one can move! Their batteries are dead and they cannot move.

How do you charge the thousands of cars in the traffic jam? (That is a business I think I’d like to look into. Drones to deliver heavy batteries and someone to remove and install.)

Same problem during summer vacation departures with miles of traffic jams.

There is virtually NO air conditioning in an electric vehicle. It would drain your battery quickly.

This will make cars run out of "fuel" and create never ending traffic jams, not to mention high tempers.

No reporter talks about this of course!

Or the fact that Electric Cars cost much more to buy – and operate!

Sorry, I’m not buying into that, you’re talking to an oil and gas Electrical guy who has a lot of experience with remote sites and power generation and backup batteries and such.

At any rate, looking at your other posts, I’d forgotten how much of a troll you were. Enjoy your stocks.

PGR: In our area, the big “green” energy utility Nextera is building a 1600 acre solar farm - and their press releases advertise it will produce enough energy for 500 homes. Which means the “footprint” of each home which is powered by solar now is 3+ acres.

Actual: NextEra Energy Solar Building 2,000 Acre Solar Farm to Power 30,000 Homes

(0.07 ACRE per home)

The technical media is focusing too much on tactics and not strategy. The electrical infrastructure and power generation will not support a large move toward electric cars. As soon as this becomes apparent the move to electrify cars will stop dead.

Of course the Libs believe that the lithium required for the batteries just arrives by pixie dust. Wait till they find out how much environmental devastation is going to be required to dig up all the lithium we need to power these cars.

1908: The infrastructure will not support a large move toward ICE cars.

Are we going to build more power plants? No? Than EV won’t take off sooner than I think.

The lefties have a little surprise in store.

Require all electric cars. Build no more new power plants.

Blame somebody, anybody for the chaos that results.
