Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think
I know, you probably haven't even driven one yet, let alone seriously contemplated buying one, so the prediction may sound a bit bold, but bear with me.
We are in the middle of the biggest revolution in motoring since Henry Ford's first production line started turning back in 1913.
And it is likely to happen much more quickly than you imagine.
Many industry observers believe we have already passed the tipping point where sales of electric vehicles (EVs) will very rapidly overwhelm petrol and diesel cars.
It is certainly what the world's big car makers think.
Jaguar plans to sell only electric cars from 2025, Volvo from 2030 and last week the British sportscar company Lotus said it would follow suit, selling only electric models from 2028.

I know. But around here, the only charging station I know of is at a big store. Two stations. I can see someone pulling the plug on someone and charging their car.
there may be some out there but, i have yet to meet a guy that ever made his ROE back on a solar setup
How many miles can you go before the batteries need to be replaced and how much is it?
You didn’t address the issue.
“But around here, the only charging station I know of is at a big store”
Every house is a Charing station.
My original posting still holds. You need to watch that CNBC video of the two founders. I provided the link in my original post in this thread.
Lets see, we just had the big Texas freeze and there was no electricity to so much as warm our houses. Now they’re saying we’ll have shortages this summer to cool our homes. CA is gearing up for their annual wild fires so no electricity there. Hurricane season will cause outages in FL. Sure, lets put more stress on our infrastructure with electric cars.
Hey, give every illegal an electric car!
Commuters here drive upwards of two hours one way to work. How does that play out when their batteries won’t last one day?
“Finding, waiting for, and time spent recharging an EV at a recharging station is.
****
and Im sure ANY idiot at the same charging station is a leftard. I make it a point to ignore or give a “murdering” vibe to any fag loving leftard I meet.
Two issues that are not going away but are swept under the rug by ev cheerleaders: 1. pi$$ poor energy density - a 100kwh ev battery stores as much energy as 3 gallons of gasoline. I use the rule of thirds when I take my boat on a trip. One third out, one third back and one third in reserve. I think that would be a reasonable rule to follow for EVs if you don’t want to get stuck someplace. And 2. Where is the electricity going to come from? The transportation sector of the us economy uses annually about 13 times the total energy output of all of the nuclear plants in the USA. Wind mills and solar is a rainbow and unicorn fart fantasy that only someone lacking the maths skills of a 3rd grader would believe.
This is a biased story from the BBC. The UK has banned all new fossil fuel powered car sales on 2030. So yeah EV sales will explode after that... eyeroll...
After 150 comments people will have lost interest in the thread, but here goes: I own an electric car which is not a Tesla. I am planning a trip from the California Central Valley to Bishop via Tahoe in my electric car. It takes about an hour to charge an electric car enough to go 225 miles. In my city they have these Chevy Bolts called Gig cars. You can rent one with an app. I waited over an hour at a place where there were 8 chargers, all being used by these Gig cars. While I was waiting several more Gig cars pulled up looking for a place to charge. If you want to know the future of electric cars, there it is. I want more people to buy them to support the chargers but not too many more so the competition for chargers doesn’t get too intense.
Why??? Because politicians are redistributing TRILLIONS of tax dollars to these vehicles and mandating their use. It will be fun listening to the same politicians explain why electricity prices have necessarily sky rocketed. And why there are constant blackouts.
There is no way the grid will support everyone driving an electric car to the degree they drive gas-fueled cars today.
You think the environment is bad now, just wait til everyone is driving an electric car and they need to come up with the energy and the resources to support that all.
Paradigm shift, new people want to own the patents and outlaw the older technology.
You get it, it is about control and limiting options.
“I think you will see more plug in hybrids”
I like the idea of those. Is there some kind of road tax on the cost of charging an electric vehicle?
The average per-gallon tax on gasoline is 50 cents.
if people are stupid enough to have masters who will enslave them they will be stuck home.
it was never about the environment
We shall see.... heard this for decades now...
Just like Uber arrogantly thought self driving cars we’re almost here too...
These 80/20 90/10 problems abound... people foolishly think because they push through the first 80 to 90% relatively quickly they think the last 10-20% are east, when in fact they account for 80-90% of the overall effort...
Like I have said, I think Evtol is more likely to mainstream before fully electric vehicles...
Time will tell
Is this where we begin an endless back and forth of stupid questions and answers that should need to be given? If I answer this question, will we be done? No, didn’t think so.
Go waste your own time.
