Victoria, May 5: After witnessing a rise in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases over the past few days, Seychelles, known as the world's most vaccinated nation, has announced fresh restrictions. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Seychelles Health Minister Peggy Vidot said the country will close down all schools, public places, and cancel all sporting events. The restrictions may remain in place till May 24.

Seychelles Public Health Commissioner Jude Gedeon said that nearly 65 percent of the active COVID-19 cases were those who have not been vaccinated or have received only one dose. "There are currently 1,068 active cases numbers, among which 84 percent are Seychellois and 16 percent are foreigners," she was further quoted by the Seychelles News Agency as saying.

Jude Gedeon also said President Wavel Ramkalawan will hold a meeting close to May 24 when a decision on whether to lift the restrictions would be taken. Seychelles, which has a population of around 98,000, has administered the COVID-19 vaccine to 62 percent of its citizens, the most for any nation in the world, Sputnik News reported. Vaccines, developed by China's Sinopharm and British-Swedish pharma giant AstraZeneca.

Seychelles, located off the coast of Africa, was among the first countries in the world to reopen to international tourism after the first COVID wave last year. Recently, the tourist-reliant country revised its guidelines for foreign arrivals and said only vaccinated visitors from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, who have completed two weeks after their second dose, are permitted to enter the island nation with proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

RE: Her daughter said two shots.

Well, this eliminates the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which is just one shot. It’s either one of the mRNA vaccines — Pfizer or Moderna.

The first time I had it I would compare it to a mild flu with a hangover feeling.

Last week, just tightness in chest and an annoying cough. I still worked (remotely). The complete loss of smell was the indicator that I had it. Granted, it’s never really come back 100%. Maybe 20-30% back, but I doubt I’ll ever get it back again completely.

Vaccines protect against serious cases, even the Az and China’s.

This’ll be a real-world test of that. And possibly the effect of variants.

Whether the vaccination is the cause of her problems or not, I have no idea. I’m just relating what I’ve been told.
MY problem is with the two negative test results before the positive one....doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in anything the doctors say, especially when you consider there are $$$involved for the positive test.

PS...Last ER visit was to a different hospital than the first two.

Seychelles has the highest GDP per capita among African nations (nominal and PPP) — and by a long shot over all but another island nation, Mauritius.

Why? Tourism.

Doh. They need the tourists, the bug be damned. And I’m all in with them on that. And of course the bug will come with the tourists.

This is just more freakout MSM crap.

Most of the people there were vaccinated with the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine.

Do you have a link for that??

I was going to post this the other day, but it was weird: Only Bloomberg had it and the only Yahoo article was also sourced Bloomberg.

From british press about the same story

When Seychelles president Wavel Ramkalawan first announced the start of the country’s vaccination drive, it had recorded a total of 531 coronavirus cases and a single death, according to data from its health ministry.

But now, almost four months later and despite the country’s successful vaccination campaign, the country has recorded a total of 6373 coronavirus cases, resulting in a reported 146 deaths.

Some nice graphs also
