Hideki Matsuyama, 29, finished 10-under par to win his first Masters on Sunday at Augusta.

The victory earns him his first major title and makes him the first Japanese player to earn the green jacket.

Matsuyama also is the first player from Japan to win a men’s major championship.

Congratulations to Matsuyama!

Did you see all of those Asian hating white supremist spectators in Georgia? No, I didn't either.

It is a sign of the difficulty with which the course played that he won with a one-over-par final round score. The chasing pack 3 to 4 strokes back came close, but could not erase the gap.

A good week for Japan at Augusta. A 17-y/o Japanese young lady, Tsubasa Kajitani, won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur championship the Sunday before.

The Japanese are golf-crazy. It’s Monday morning in Japan, and no doubt the media and the citizenry are on a high.

The Japanese are more “American” than most Americans these days.

Fantastic tournament. Congrats to Hideki and his caddy. Xander tin cupped the 16th otherwise it would have been a nail-biter.

I was shocked at the chorus of boos that greeted Matsuyama as he approached the 18th green, and the shouts of "Go home, Jap," and "We won the war," and "America for Americans." And I broke down in tears when dozens of white supremacists tried to prevent him from receiving the winner's trophy.

Of course, none of this happened even in "racist" Georgia, and Matsuyama got the same winner's welcome that others get.

Hideki nearly almost missed winning.

In a string of holes Hideki and Xander Schaffele went from Hideki being five shots ahead of Xander (at the 13th) to Hideki being only 2 ahead of Xander at the 15th.

Then at the 16th Xander missed the green with his T-shot landing in the water, he takes a triple bogey dropping his score by four points, but Hideki takes a bogey himself dropping by one.

At that point Hideki was only 2 away from Zalatoris who had already completed the 18th. Zalatoris score stood at 9 under par and Hideki’s score stood at 11.

Then at the 18th Hideki gets one more bogey, dropping to 10, just one ahead of Zalatoris.

But the real missed chance is held by Xander Shcaffele who had birdied the previous four holes before the triple bogey at the 16th, when he had stood only two shots away from Hideki at the 15th. Xander parred both the 17th and 18th. If he had just parred the 16th he and Hideki would have been tied at 10 at the 18th, and into a playoff round. If he had birdied the 16th, he would have won, just one ahead of Hideki.

I would have been fine with either Hideki or Xander winning, the both played so well.

Dropping his score?

Couldn’t a guy dunk one or two in that situation?
