But the recent announcement that celebrity M.D. Dr. Oz would be taking over the fact-based game show this week has got fans questioning whether “Jeopardy!” producers have lost their way.
In an open letter published on Medium.com last month, a consortium of former “Jeopardy!” winners and contestants urged the show to rethink the decision, alleging that casting the “dubious” doc in the role would celebrate “the elevation of … talking head[s] at the expense of academic rigor and consensus.”

“Throughout his nearly two decades on television he has used his authority as a doctor to push harmful ideas onto the American public, in stark contrast with his oath to first do no harm. These ideas include promoting supplements that do nothing, legitimizing gay conversion therapy (which is banned in California, as well as 19 other states), dangerous ‘cures’ for autism, and, most recently, the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19.”

My sense is the merciful thing to do for this show is call it over.
Note to contestants: we are withdrawing your invitation to our game show as we don’t want to offend you. Please start your own game show and let us know how that turns out.
But they got no problem with Katie Couric? They speak gibberish.
I know people who have been serious fans of it for many years - including one lady who wouldn’t take phone calls while it was on.
‘Dr. Oz’ has always seemed to me to be an opportunist.
I agree with the former Jeopardy participants that someone less flamboyant and more cerebral should be the host.
I’ll take, “Why does being ‘woke’ ruin everything for everybody” for $1000, Dr. Oz.
Couric was the worst. Oz would be far, far better. But not on a permanent basis.
But they got no problem with Katie Couric? They speak gibberish. They speak the language of the Left.
All heretics must be crucified.

They should let Biden be guest host.
“I’ll take demented Presidents for 5 dollars Joe”.
Katie Couric doesn’t pretend to be a doctor.
Dr. Oz promoted gay conversion therapy? Please show a source.
I think they should look at David Duchovny. He has the academic creds, thinks pretty fast on this feet, and it would be a nice touch given that Alex Trebek once appeared in an episode of the X-Files.
If they want to hate on Dr. Oz so be it. But don’t cloak it in this gibberish about academic rigor.
I like that idea. Not sure about his “academic rigorousness” but sure why not? He can draw an audience and seems witty enough.
I am assuming they still stick to the same schedule, eg they shoot all 5 weekly episodes on one day. So it should be fairly easy to schedule a whole ‘host’ of various B, C and D list celebs.
I don’t know much about him - I think I watched the X-Files once. (But I would like one of those posters that says, ‘I want to believe’...)
Dr. Oz is a lot better than most of the television “medical experts” so of course he must be cancelled.
I’m quoting the article in the thread title.

He has a BA in English Lit from Princeton and an MA from Yale, earned back in the 80s when those schools could still be taken somewhat seriously.
Yeah Dr Oz is a quack but geez— get a life you twits.
