Cox Media Group is moving into the post-Rush Limbaugh era with new programs on news/talkers WSB-WSBB-FM (750/95.5) Atlanta and WOKV-FM Jacksonville (104.5).
Erik Erickson moves from 4-6pm to 12-3pm at WSB, followed by one-hour of Sean Hannity (3-4pm) and then Mark Arum from 4-7pm, who adjusts from his current 6-8pm show hours. The final two hours of Hannity will air from 7-9pm.
“I would never have gotten into radio without encouragement from Rush Limbaugh who has been gracious over the years with a lot of great advice and guidance,” Erickson, who has been with the station for a decade, said in a release. “It was an honor to fill in for him on his show, and it is overwhelming and humbling to move into the slot Rush occupied with such distinction for so long. I appreciate and intend to live up to the responsibility that comes with this time slot.”
Arum has been with WSB since 1997 and also serves as the traffic anchor for WSB-TV’s “Channel 2 Action News This Morning.” He remains as the youngest inductee ever into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2017.
“When I was hired at 95.5 WSB over 23 years ago, I could never have envisioned that I would ever get the opportunity to host a drive time show on the best news and talk station in the nation. It’s a cliché, but this is truly a dream come true,” Arum said. “I invite all of Metro Atlanta and North Georgia to get all the news, weather and traffic they need, and the entertainment they want every afternoon with me and my pals on 95.5 WSB, Atlanta’s News and Talk.”
In Jacksonville, Mark Kaye, who recently stepped down from his morning show on CHR WAPE-FM to focus on his talk show at WOKV-FM, moves from 10am-12pm to 12-3pm. The syndicated Brian Kilmeade will now air from 9am-12pm on WOKV-FM. The show previously aired from 9-10am and 6-8pm on the station.
“As a life-long fan of Rush Limbaugh, I am still adjusting to a world without his voice,” Kay remarked. “Producing a daily show in ‘Rush’s timeslot’ is a daunting task for any broadcaster, but I am grateful to the leadership team at CMG and 104.5 WOKV for placing their trust in me. With the audience's help I promise to do my best to keep Rush’s spirit, energy, and unique brand of conservative entertainment alive. This is an incredibly bittersweet opportunity.”
“I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to elevate internal CMG talent to these critically essential dayparts on our news-talk stations,” Senior VP, Radio Rob Babin added. “Mark Kaye, Erick Erickson and Mark Arum each have a proven track record and commitment to our audience and communities. I have no doubt their success will continue as they expand to new dayparts and reach new audiences.”
All changes go into effect Monday, March 22.
That is you who uses leftist tactics. Referring me to as noob like a union leader. Noticed you ignored how Rush said nothing about obamas birth certificate. Only one person had the guts to seriously address the issue, and it wasn’t faux conservative Rush.
This is an interesting announcement for this station group as “The Rush Limbaugh Show” is still very much airing. So these stations are just dropping the show.
I was more interested in seeing if the show would continue with a new host (i.e. The Rush Limbaugh Show with your host, Mark Steyn or whoever), or if they are planning to just end it entirely at some point.
Anything from him after November, nope!!
They would have turned him off. He complied. Just like with the Obama birth certificate issue, him and FAUX News was eerily silent about.
Lightweight.
Yeah....you pegged him, alright. Rush was a real lightweight.
🙄
Are you finished bashing Rush, n00b?
I said you are a light weight.
What Rush truly believed, he left it off air.
What Rush truly believed, he left it off air.
Oh, right. You would know that, about him....because....you also know that he was a ‘faux conservative’.
Geez....you should’ve stopped while you sounded somewhat foolish.
Agreed. Daily Bannon listener, morning and late afternoon. Best there is IMO.
I am not going to resort to insuting; honestly, I think of you as 4my friend.
Rush was not the gold standard of conservatives. He held back. Probably under threat. He supported Bush cronyism.
He hired Elton John to be his wedding singer. Very interesting. He could have had anyone. You know people, by the company they keep.
1. The EIB determined (or heard from PDs across the country) too many fatass 'murricans (like many on this website, apparently) will get turned off with a furrin' accent. I was blindsided by the dislike for Steyn on FR. He is probably the best fill-in Rush has ever had.
2. Mark simply didn't want the job. He moved on. Maybe he doesn't like what they are doing right now.
3 They already have a sucessor, and it's possibly someone Mark is not too fond of, who wants a better time-slot that's right, I said it!
Damn Siri.
“re-runs of Rush’s TV show.”
Rush’s TV show had WAY too slow of a pace.
His Radio was much better, but did have no shortage of filler.
“Seth Liebson of 960 The Patriot, in Phoenix AZ is one to watch. No one I have heard has displayed such a balance of courage and intelligent discourse as Seth. Worth a listen!”
Used to work for/with Howie Carr [3-7 on
WFEA, and other stations].
“...it has left a big hole in my day.”
As a relatively long termed retiree, that is the case for me too. I now often don’t even turn on talk radio, tend to just listen to music [partly due to a Trump-less World these days].
Rush’s show happened before memes and video streams. What he gave us is timeless. He encouraged people to send in skits and he did that before Youtube. I just viewed some old shows on YT and who cares if it was too slow. If it comes on you don’t have to watch it.
Or worse.
What an insult to WSB listeners -- filling Rush's 12-3pm time slot with the nauseating Erik Erickson!
I can't believe it either. You would think Rush himself had some sort of replacement in mind. Maybe he just wanted the show to end for good once he passed away?
I miss him every day. As others have said, when I hear his opening music now, it makes me sad.
Oh geez... Portland, Maine's WGAN is giving Rush's 12-3 slot to Grace Curley?? She's very talented, and I like her personally -- my husband and I spent 4 hours with her, Howie and Taylor when we visited Howie's Boston studio as a "VIP" back in August 2019. But I don't think I could listen to her for 3 straight hours.
I don't live in the Boston area, but I know Rush's show was not on WRKO, so Grace didn't knock Rush out of his own time slot while he was still alive. The Rush Limbaugh Show was carried on another station in Boston - I don't remember which one, though.
Yup. Steyn is excellent on TV when he fills in for Tucker or on Fox News' new 7:00pm ET show. IMO, he should be the permanent host for that 7pm "Fox News Primetime" M-F show.
I don’t know who that is, but they will be losing listeners, for sure.
But we all know that NO one will be able to measure up to Rush!
