I’m not Jewish, but I learned just last week about the planned genocide that prompted this holiday.
I was mentioning how much I enjoy a certain confection called a Hamentaschen.(Sp) A triangular cookie sometimes made of shortbread. This shape symbolized the hats worn by officers who were supposed to round certain people up.
I believe there was a reprieve from that order.

The Book of Esther is the story of how the Jews in Persia were delivered from an extermination order in 473 BC.
This resulted in the establishment of the Festival of Purim, celebrated by Jews around the world every year since.
But there is also a hidden story woven into the text that New Testament Christians will find to be especially meaningful.
Read the story of Purim and discover its hidden meaning as Esther herself might have revealed it.
This is one of my favorite Bible stories. It was in fact the first lesson I ever taught at church. Mordecai was the man!!

The book of Esther is a reminder that the God of Israel will tolerate injustice toward His people - only for so long.
Today, Christians are the most persecuted people on earth.
"And when the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony they had upheld. And they cried out in a loud voice, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You avenge our blood and judge those who dwell upon the earth?” - Revelation 6:9-10
Scripture and history are replete with God's judgement against the wicked.
Wicked and unrepentant democrats will be judged - Praise God!

Next year (as was the case in '46/5706), Purim is the same day as St. Patriarch's er Patrick's Day, so everyone will get to be Esther; i.e. green (fresh and new).
Love all the mystery and intrigue and weirdness in the Megillah, so I am looking ahead to the Luck (lot) o' the Irish! ;)
And to think that people dis the lil' fellow who's got a big pot o' gold. This happens in great part because his gold (50) is always just out of reach. Now if only they would take a moment to size up his odd name of dubious provenance, and the timing of his annual appearance, they'd see strange things that would then be avoided like the plague: a leper-con, leper-kahn, le'Pur-cohen..

By simple deduction, there were no cobblers in the wilderness (Numbers), because they would have had no way to make a living.
